Yet another Morrisons thread

Why not? I can't find the other ones.

Finally got a chance to go into Hinckley's Morrisons today which was converted from Safeway in June. And it ain't bad to be fair - I was expecting a load of 80s shite but apart from the tacky Market Street stuff it wasn't too bad - and it's been enlarged too. Checkouts are tacky and 80s and I don't like the introduction of a smoking area in the Cafe but otherwise the conversion hasn't been that bad, apart from the black/yellow imaging, the uniforms (!) and tacky cardboard asile layout signs.

When it was Safeway it was being run into the ground by Morrisons but now it isn't too bad at all.

What's the story with other fully converted stores? I seem to have the impression that they've put heaps of effort into converting Hinckley's Safeway because they were stopped from building a brand new Morrisons on the bus station site in the town centre - the upshot of which is that M have been trying to have a shop in Hinckley since 2000 (A bit odd, therefore, they've waited over a year to convert it) so they've put a lot more effort into the conversion than the average SW has had.

Did they ditch the LCD?! That's ego-driven lunacy gone mad...

Why have they done that? It's like taking it back to the 80s when smoking places were commonplace. Most places (bar pubs and greasy spoons) are non smoking now and I find that most cafes that have smoking in them actually put me off from eating in there.

My local Safeway's is still a Safeway's. Albeit with Morrisons branded products in it and putrid odours in some parts of the store. I choose not to shop there normally but sometimes I just have to go in to get things that aren't available in Sainsbury's.

As a smoker myself, I dislike smoking café's and shops.

I hate the smell of other peoples smoke, especially when I'm eating!

I don't mind at all going outside for a cig after my food, or more often than not I'll wait until I get back to my car and light up.

The only places I think smoking is acceptable is in clubs and air-conditioned pubs. Anywhere else and it should be banned.

Must admit that Hinckley's isn't anywhere near as 80s as I expected. The checkouts and uniforms are straight out of the 80s but that's all I noticed. I don't remember any bad smells either.

M have also extended the shop massively. Still fucking hate Market Street though!

I work in the one at Warrington and believe it or not you'd be quite surprised at how popular the Smoking Area is, and the amount of people who smoke by their food, something that I don't really like. Up until I read this I thought they were planning to phase it out, but I find it odd that ex-Safeway stores have decided to jump back and introduce Smoking areas. We have a Smoking Room for staff in the canteen, but it says strictly no food, shame that can't be applied for the Café.

Someone was telling me that converting every Safeway store into a Morrisons store was costing loads of money, I can't remember the exact figure but I even heard suggestions of £2 Million per store at one point.

Anyone who has been in a Morrisons either Today or Yesterday will have noted down the 'Seasonal aisle' they have started selling Christmas stock such as chocolates.

Though Morrisons has some odd bargains at the minute, loads of old Sega games but on PC are only £2.99 each, some DVD's such as King Ralph and Cruel Intentions 2 again £2.99 each, Spiderman (2002) for 99p on VHS, a Superted boxset for £4.99 bizzarely.

If you plan to go into a Café may I suggest the Pasta Bolognese for £2.99 (Save £1 offer), it's really nice.
