DigitalSpyWare Warning

In the last two days, the BBC virus scanning software is detecting a piece of spyware when visiting some DigitalSpy pages. I suspect it's accompanying an advert for a company called Opodo.

No spyware being reported for me on DS Forums with the Opodo ads. Mayby your just unlucky?

EDIT: I did get a spyware alert the other day but I was not on DS.

Hmmm, maybe it's not the Opodo ads but it's never happened before, and it's happened twice in two days. The BBC virus scanner reports a "generic downloader" is trying to install software and automatically deletes the attempted download.

Do you have a firewall (apart from the one built in XP)? It sounds like one of those peices of spyware that somehow try to get on PC's from the net. If your sure it's coming from DS you might want to contact them.

Am afraid the BBC is indeed (like so many big organisations) guilty of spending too much of your money on Microsoft products. It is indeed "Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by the BBC". Will be Siemens before too long.

I would report the problem to DigitalSpy but I suspect Beth Hart, the Mad Moderator would simply ban me from the site for life for suggesting such a thing.

aww, back when it read "BBC Internet Explorer" I used to think it was a different version (fabber of course)

If you can, add the ad server "adverts.digitalspy.co.uk" to your restricted sites list in IE - you will then get no flash ads or any of this crap. I would assume that unless you have an admin account you can't change the settings in IE, so I would speak to the IT department regarding this.

Even now I've got a new PC that can pretty much hack any flash ad you can throw at it without slowing down to a crawl, the adverts with lots of dizzying animation and noises still annoy me, and so until DS formally announce that they are going to stop all flash ads, it shall remain this way.
