Nice spot. Was it possibly something to do with the anniversary last year?ph2o wrote: Fri 01 Aug, 2025 16.43 Not a rebrand of sorts but I recently noticed the addition of a 'Since 1974' on the signage of McDonald's.
This is McDonald's in Woolwich which I know is the first ever Maccy's in the UK so I wonder if it's a one off.
There is a special recognition plaque on the left next to the Deliveroo guy.

Another High Street Rebrand
I've just had a letter from Halifax still proudly sporting their old logo.thegeek wrote: Tue 08 Aug, 2023 13.58I normally log in to Bank of Scotland's online banking, but had cause to use the Halifax-skinned version of it today, and see that they're still using the old branding on there. I mean, it's only been four years. Why rush these things?JAS84 wrote: Sat 06 Apr, 2019 20.26 Just saw a TV ad for Halifax bank, with what looked like an updated logo on it - it's no longer stripy and has a new font.
Their online banking it still using it too, except when you go to the 'inbox' section, which is in a new style. The Lloyds online banking is the same - old logo on most of the pages, new on the inbox.
Bank of Scotland seem to have avoided this issue by not having changed their logo since 2010.
I actually still have a John Menzies paper pad and some stationary I bought from there not long before they became WHSmith, not to mention several packs of photos from back when they used to develop them-IIRC they gave you a film every time you had something developed.

Guardian article on how customers have reacted or not reacted to the TGJones rebrand of WHSmith's retail operation.

I have to say, when i first heard they were renaming the retail side of the business, it made me think of the various convenience shops with similar, but legally distinct, names: Samco (with red serif lettering and a blue underline), Landis, or my personal favourite, Nasda (owned by a bloke called Nasseem. Its near Alder Hey children's hospital)
They really should have gone for a new name entirely, because TG Jones doesn't sound right, it just seems off, and it doesn't stick in the head. Smiths does.

The demographics of the customers in that article are a bit telling. News, cards and books are all pretty unpopular these days. Stationery would either be a supermarket for the basics (incl school supplies these days) or a dedicated stationers which is a much more fun experience. The new branding seems so uninspired I don't think they're capable of the pivot required.Martin Phillp wrote: Wed 24 Dec, 2025 21.35 Guardian article on how customers have reacted or not reacted to the TGJones rebrand of WHSmith's retail operation.

I think they've done too well at rebranding it to the point that most customers still think it's WHSmith, right down to the receipts which are almost identical bar the new name on the back of them. Even staff uniforms are very similar.cdd wrote: Mon 29 Dec, 2025 17.37The demographics of the customers in that article are a bit telling. News, cards and books are all pretty unpopular these days. My local store got the new signs two days after the sale, but inside is exactly the same right down to the dirty blue carpet that looks like it's never been washed.
