No kidding. Here's a comparison between the last set, and the new ones. I do like the Teams one, I think that's an improvement, but I cannot say that the other ones really represent the application.

I don't like how it's full of advertisements for Microsoft 365, or adverts for Microsoft's partners. I also think that the software is still really clunky, despite an effort to harmonise things. Its telling that Microsoft has used the NT kernel now for longer than they used the original DOS kernel. And AI is everywhere. Yes, it is good for a quick edit of a sentence, or a maths problem here and there, but I don't want my device to be an AI experience.

The plan is to move to Zorin OS, and learn Linux that way, before eventually transitioning away from Windows completely. I've used open source software like Libre Office, and my Steam library is fully compatible with Linux. The only software I use that's Windows only is MusicBee, and Apple Music; which I can potentially run with Wine.
MacOS is definitely not perfect, but it’s a lot less noisy. I’m still running an M1 16” Macbook pro and it’s still smooth, battery life amazing and no crapware. It’s not for everyone, but it’s considerably more polished than the open source distributions, and a lot less naggy than Windows if all the stuff you need to do runs on it

Yeah but I can't stand the thought of giving money to Apple. I also don't like the UI of Mac OS.

Most egregious of all, they've changed the icons for .doc, .ppt and other associated extensions too

I got a Macbook Air a couple of years ago, and it has become my favourite device for casual use due to its battery life and portability. The new Copilot+ Surface PCs look like great alternatives to be fair, but I have been too poisoned by the Gen1 Surface Pro which was the worst device I have ever owned.

So I'm a bit of a begrudging Apple convert (although I do still use Windows as my 'main PC', and I'm heavily involved in the MS stack at work). I just have to hope nobody remembers or finds those old posts where I called mac owners idiots; I'd have quite the egg on my face if those were ever to surface.
