Looking forward to the new jingle:

🎶 Fewer reasons to shop at Morrisons 🎶

Seriously though, the fish and hot food counters are/were the main reason I'll occasionally take a trip to a Morrisons. Seems nobody wants to sell me a hot rotisserie chicken any more.

it's only a matter of time before they close all their counters as Sainsubry's and Tesco have..

Which rotisseries are closing? I can only see Market Kitchens, which are a different thing. In fact Netherfield lost its rotisserie counter to get a Market Kitchen. No whole hot chickens since.

Ah, my apologies. I thought Market Kitchen was another name for the hot food counter. The changes are perhaps less sweeping than I initially thought. Good.

The hot food counter in my local store has just closed, replaced by a heated cabinet. I'd like to think that means you might be able to get served at the deli counter in less than 10 minutes since it's one less counter for a single member of staff to manage, but I wouldn't be surprised if they shut that too instead.

I can’t get my head around the need to go to a counter for something that’s available on shelves elsewhere.

The cooked meat from the deli counter is (generally) cheaper, and (generally) nicer for not having been sweating in plastic packaging for however long, and you can buy as much or as little of it as you need, cut as thinly or thickly as you like it. Plus, you can see it before you buy it, instead of getting home and realising there's a nasty gristly bit that was obscured by a sticker. And it only uses a couple of thin plastic sheets (which you can reuse to wrap other things) and a paper bag, instead of a plastic tray with a film lid that's hard to recycle.

Found this on Reddit:

"From a company email -

We’re proud of Market Street and the part it plays in our customers' experience, and we know it’s one of the reasons customers choose to shop with us.

As customers' shopping habits continue to change, so will the way we set up and run Market Street to ensure it's profitable and sustainable for the future. This will involve continuing to simplify ranges, introducing new processes, products, the use of grab and go concepts and regular reviews of our packaging.

So, over the coming weeks and months we’ll be running a number of trials to modernise and reinvigorate our Market Street for the next generation."

To me, it look like the end of the manned counters, probably one of the only things that sets Morrisons apart from other supermarkets. I mean they've already done it for the Oven Fresh counter as mentioned on this thread previously, so why not the butchers, fishmongers, salad bar etc. I suppose we'll just have to see. If they do close them, though, I hope it's done properly otherwise the stores will be looking even messier and run down than they already are.

I've noticed a few stores have started to get very utilitarian metal displays for produce. On first sight I thought they were left over from the 'misted veg' era but I'm pretty sure they're new.

One of those stores had a self service order terminal for the Pizza Counter, not unlike the ones they have in Cafes, which sounds like it might be part of this same drive.

Yes, I've noticed those displays as well and thought exactly the same thing. They look like something you would find in an IKEA restaurant, I honestly don't know what they are thinking as the previous ones were much nicer.

I've also noticed a new logo for Market Street has appeared on the thermal printed labels on the hot food / deli items (which I don't personally like to be honest as it looks off-centered to me!)

No return for the rotating banana display though 😢
