Two days ago I visited a Virgin Money branch to request a new debit card as my current one wasn't working in certain third party ATMs (it was being spat back out without even letting me enter the pin due to the black stripe being damaged - it worked fine in VM's own ATMs). The new card just arrived in the post. That's definitely speedy service from both Virgin Money and Royal Mail. Makes a nice change!
Was it Tracked 24 or 48? Post here is useless with a backlog of around two weeks unless you post parcels.

UK ATMs don't use the magnetic stripe and haven't for quite a while.

In fact, almost nowhere uses the magnetic stripe and they will begin being removed from cards altogether imminently:

The exception are cards which aren't traditional credit or debit cards. For example, prepaid high street shopping cards, and the Premier Inn Business Card. The latter requires the magnetic stripe to be swiped, and then a signature is taken (and the workplace gets the bill on account).

Sure, proprietary cards can do whatever they want. They also won't work in ATMs tho.
