The only problem with the challenger banks is that they seem just as eager to charge loads of tiny little fees as the legacy players. Also most of them want £150 a year for some dubious catalogue of benefits, and intentionally hobble their free product in annoying ways to drive upgrades.

I'm not sure how you can construe that as a problem, it's neither an advantage nor disadvantage because (as you note) it is all comparable to the legacy banks.

Lloyds Banking Group are closing 60 branches.

Some of these (especially the BoS ones) feel a bit like they'll be the only branch in town, if not the only bank in town - though as I said in the other thread, they know what their footfall is like.

Certainly in Penge it's the last bank in town, but the branch hadn't changed since it was a building society. Incidentally the stats for the ATM at the Penge branch went up and was more on a par with 2019.

Luckily the town has enough ATMs to cover the loss of the Halifax one, but it's looking like that ATMs in the near future will be provided by third-party providers such as NoteMachine and Cardtronics than high street banks.

Maybe it could be replaced by a Post Office Bank Hub, assuming the trial is still ongoing. Ref https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-59639689.

What isn’t immediately noticeable from that list but is locally is “Halifax (Commercial Street)” is actually what I believe is known as branch 001

They are keeping a more recent branch elsewhere in the town but they could have avoided controversy if they’d decided to keep the historic branch instead. Ironically the more modern branch would probably have no problem being re occupied but the historic branch will probably stand empty, unless Wetherspoons want to have 3 pubs in the town rather than just 2.

More Halifax/Lloyds closures:

I was a bit surprised to see Tottenham Court Road on there, but the Halifax flagship is actually on New Oxford Street and is remaining open.
