Went to B&Q last night and they've put brand new self-service tills in. And drastically reduced the number of manned tills to two or three.Philip wrote: ↑Thu 03 Oct, 2019 18.45 Don't really know where to put this but it doesn't need a new thread. Went to B&Q in Aintree last week, and they've removed the self-service checkouts. Looking on Twitter, it appears they've done this in other locations too. Apparently it's because of too many people stealing.
The new self-service has a camera pointed on you and a monitor showing this, with both a cordless barcode scanner and a fixed one (the latter of which doesn't seem to work).

Is the monitor showing your face some sort of psychological trick to make you think twice about shoplifting?

The new B&Q self scan tills are very good. Far better than the disastrous old Nixdorf ones they used to have, and eventually took out of use. But yes they also involve removing more manned checkouts than required for the space.

IKEA also updated their self-checkouts earlier this year, but the scanner guns are still as bad as ever.
