No-one wants you or Brekkie or anyone else to hijack presentation threads with political spam. It's not what the forum is about and that's why the moderators and other members, myself included, are coming down hard on it.

I want to hear your thoughts and input about TV presentation on TV Forum but nothing else.

Metropol247 is a perfectly good place to have those discussions and it surprises me that not more people use it. I and many others would no doubt gladly debate you on here. In fact, why not start up a thread now called "Perceived bias in British media" and you can post away to your heart's content about it as can Brekkie and others.

In case you don't know, there was originally a sub-forum on TVF called "The Lounge" which was a general discussion forum. Metropol247 was its replacement. I can't remember what it was that got "The Lounge" taken down but it was a very popular and lively forum. To make MP247 the same (and I wish it was because the Lounge could be brilliant at times), I would love you (and me) and others to post more here.
All I'm interested is discussing impartiality and disinformation, which I was attempting to do until I managed to piss off the usual suspects, including Brekkie because of the hypocrisy some members have when it comes to discussing editorial on TVF.

If you mention bias when it comes to a right-wing outlet, then you get the right-winger members who get wound up, then if I post about bias towards another that is more of the liberal persuasion, then you're going to wind up Brekkie and others who may support more socialist policies. So if I post with an observation which was complete fact about Nigel Farage which was a classic piece of disinformation which was confirmed later by The Home Office on twitter, you're going to annoy someone because of their own perception of what is biased.

It should be possible to discuss sensibly bias and disinformation of a media outlet as part of presentation (editorial is as much part of presentation as much as an aston) without it being a slanging match, that was one of the reasons why the GB News threads continually get locked because they then get political without others being able to see where the tv channel or radio station has got it wrong without bringing politics into it.

Mentioning that Nigel Farage was able to spread disinformation is as much an editorial error as much as Owen Jones spouting nonsense on Sky News.

Apparently TV Forum is now the GMB Forum.

I sometimes can't believe all the hype that show gets over there over a minor desk change.

AlfieMulcahy's stupid comments aren't helping matters.

Surely that's the sort of pedantry that the forum is for.

In times gone by the level of discussion given to that desk change would be for a wholesale change of set or graphics; I think the changes to GMB aren't helped by a certain director of that programme tweeting every minutiae of change.

I will be the first to admit until the word began appearing in that thread I never knew what a credenza was, nor do I care what it is.

Dunno how I feel about TV Forum closing but I worry Digital Spy has won. At least Metropol will still exist... for now.

It was sadly inevitable that it would all end this way after the recent issues. We've all been saying things haven't been the same for quite a while. I did think that once the pandemic was over, people went back to work/socialising and Brexit moved into the past that things would improve and people would be more civil and tolerant, with fewer posts to wade through daily.

If true it's a shame sadly I cannot read the page as the site isn't loading.

edit: managed to get it to load, wonder if there's increased traffic due to the announcement?

I think the reality is Asa ran the site as a hobby and to keep that hobby going for nigh on 20 years (plus TV Home of course) is good going; is it sad? Yes it is but how long can you expect someone to work gratis (or miniscule ad revenue for those that are polite enough not to use an ad blocker) alongside external work commitments.

We have to support his decision even if we don't necessarily like it. I do however think surely it would be easier to hand the reins over to someone else and let them (if they have suitable knowledge of php/scripting etc) keep things ticking over, as it maintains continuity. I know of another web forum that gave its bespoke software and database of close to 1 million posts and 10,000 members away and has changed hands twice since then - still online... Who knows, it's not too late and maybe Asa will have a change of heart?

I see our own rob has said TV Live will start a forum up for us to have our geeky moments!

Well there’s a shocker.

Seen that TV Live is planning a replacement (is that Rob’s site?). I expect we’ll see a few crop up though.

Not been this surprised since the M Local down the road closed its doors 😢

Yep, that's me.

Not planning to launch it until TV Forum powers down, but I plan to have the same layout of messageboards, but I'm contemplating whether to ditch the mocks and requests sections, as they're the most troublesome.

Final victory goes to Nick Harvey.

Carbuncle’s Televisual Corner has a certain ring to it.

Nah seriously, it’s weird to think the site won’t exist in its current form. I say we bring back the IRC chat room for the last day.
Good Lord!
