The local Poundworld was unusually quiet today, while the Poundland was packed two doors down.

Probably because Poundworld are running down their stock, since they're about to go into administration.

It doesn't surprise me - the strength of their catalogues is the sheer amount of choice in sizes and varieties, you can't translate that to a retail presence with shops around the size of a small HMV or Waterstones split between 2 or 3 brands. Naff effort.

I suspect the mess the company got into was even too much for the founder. Best to buy the scraps of the business and start again.
