The local Poundworld was unusually quiet today, while the Poundland was packed two doors down.

Probably because Poundworld are running down their stock, since they're about to go into administration.

I believe an announcement is imminent on this. Allegedly its going through the court this morning.

It doesn't surprise me - the strength of their catalogues is the sheer amount of choice in sizes and varieties, you can't translate that to a retail presence with shops around the size of a small HMV or Waterstones split between 2 or 3 brands. Naff effort.

Looks like nobody wanted to buy Poundworld - closing down signs have gone up.

I suspect the mess the company got into was even too much for the founder. Best to buy the scraps of the business and start again.

On the topic of WH Smith being unsure of what it wants to sell. Spotted Easter eggs, for £6.99 plus at a Lancashire branch today. Yes Easter eggs in June!

Or 2 for £10. But yeah, shouldn't they be marked down for clearance?
