I think it was just more accepted back in 2001 and you genuinely didn't believe the person you were on about would read it.
Nowadays in the "connected" era though the rota chat is disturbing. I also agree that it's now a case of when, not if, the cops take an interest and certain people find their machines siezed.

What would the cops take interest in? Is there really anything illegal about someone publicly posting they think a national newsreader will want to do less hours in the near future?robschneider wrote:Nowadays in the "connected" era though the rota chat is disturbing. Yes, it's creepy, dull, and repetitive, but they're not being anywhere near as stalkerish these days as some previous members have been. I think it's mostly just a sad combination of over-enthusiastic school kids with too much time and a little too much OCD trying to make sense of what they're seeing, and a consequence of everybody having an always on internet connection. Fifteen years ago you wouldn't get these types of posts, because nobody would be jumping on their PC to connect via dial-up and wait ten minutes for the page to actually load and let you post "OMG, Huw's sat in the 9 o'clock news seat, are they actually going to try him out?????! :O".
I don't think it's really any different to people constantly complaining about the alignment of displays, or that there's typo's in the ticker. It's just an indication that they're watching closer than the people who actually get paid to worry about these things. [And I don't mean that in a good way.]
I think it was misinterpreting a sarcastic comment I made earlier about not being surprised if some of the posts on the rota thread were one day read out in a court of law.dosxuk wrote:What would the cops take interest in? Last couple of pages of the BBC rotas thread, Pete.
Moz thinks Nicholas Owen should be pensioned off, adding later, when challenged, that Mr Owen is to nice to be a newsreader, further digging a hole.
I thought Moz had a bit more about him than that kind of bollocks.

What's the point of a presenters & rota's thread if you can't express dislike of a presenter?
I'm sure Alistair Stewart wouldn't have been annoyed at the post about him if the poster hadn't tried to attribute his thoughts to Alistair himself.
Do we have to be nice about all celebs on there now, just in case one of them reads the post?
