Freeview HD Problems

I've just bought a Technika Freeview HD box from Tesco at £30 - a bargain, I think! It's not fantastic but nowhere near as bad as reviews make out.

Anyway, it doesn't work (yet.) When I tune in, it's telling me I have 95% signal and picks up all channels including HD ones. The SD channels work okay, but when I change to a HD one in the EPG it says 'Updating Services' and then the HD channels disappear. If I change to a HD channel from the EPG it just says 'Audio video not available.'

Does anyone have any ideas? It's very strange.

I have exactly the same box but I bought it for £50 days before the price was lowered :( . The problems you are describing also occurred to me so I left the box switched on overnight and then upgraded it via the menu the next morning. Once the box was updated the problems you are describing went away and haven't returned. If you need more detailed help, tell me and I will give you a run through step by step.

On another note, the major downfall about this box for me is the remote. The remote must be used on all Technica products as there is a logo sticker covering the bottom gaps where I gather DVD buttons would be placed. The problem is the glue that holds the sticker down is rubbish and the logo keeps peeling off the remote. Other than that though, I would recommend the box to anyone who is on the lookout for a HD reciver.

Hi, thanks for that information -that's a relief knowing it's nothing to do with my aerial. I've tried to update it but there is no way in the menu to force it to do so, only an option for it to be done manually (when it finds one, show a message to ask if it should update before it does so) or do so automatically. If you could tell me how you did this it would be much appreciated, thanks!

I will be able to tell you in more detail later tonight when I am back home with the box. :)

Okay, thanks a lot

EDIT: Don't worry about it ,in fact! I found a firmware update on the Channel Zero website and that has fixed my problems. Thanks very much for the advice!
