MyBook Studio issues with Windows 7

Yet another amusing technical issue I can't solve...

I've just bought a MyBook Studio external hard drive with Firewire 800 connectability. The one I had, another MyBook, ran on Firewire fine until recently when I began getting BSoDs everytime I tried to connect it to Windows 7.

This time, however, it only seems to like this new Studio connected by USB. If I connect it via Firewire, the drive starts whirring, but nothing happens on screen. Only if I leave it on when Windows starts up does it mount. However, when I start trying to move things onto it, it suddenly disappears, and will only come back on if I plug it in via USB.

Funnily enough, despite being formatted as NTFS, Mac OS X recognises and reads the drive via Firewire without any issues. I'd like to say I could settle with using USB, but considering I bought this hard drive specifically for Firewire, it's something I wouldn't like to settle with.

Any advice, guys? Many thanks :)
