First Les goes, now Butler.

How long for Uncle Ed then?

Sounds like they're victims of the BBC Local 2010 plan, which is a big thing in BBC LR at the moment. Essentially they're trying to make the stations sound more fresh and up-to-date, and shedding the fuddy-duddy, twee image.

Some stations need more work than others, and I understand BBC WM is one of those considered most in need of an update.

as old as butler sounds, he does seem to have a fair few younger callers on the football phone in. he's a great loss to the station. lets hope they're not throwing the baby out with the bath water.

if anything has made wm twee its taking the bbc midlands lateshow with rob underwood based in nottingham. i'm sure it fits in well with the schedules elsewhere, but its totally out of place on wm & cwr.

i wonder how long john platt's network gold will last, and god forbid they ever get rid of tracey's jail mail :(

I think the fact a primarily CHR station BRMB can stick with an 'old guy' with a similar style in terms of Tom Ross for their football coverage, shows that younger listeners like to listen to a slightly barmy local legend when it comes to catching up with their local side.
