Jeeze that BBC thread is making my head spin.

And warnings and bans for "oneness bashing" is adding to the brain melt.

There seems to be a growing list of topics that could get you a ban or warning. Hard to keep up with and it's off-putting tbh.

The whole atmosphere of the place feels off to me at the moment - maybe it is the influx of new members who may or may not be kids.

It's all just... Odd.

I think more warnings and bans have been dished out in recent months than Asa dished out in 20 years

I've had a similar feeling of late but I've struggled to put my finger on what the root cause of it all is.

One of the big complaints of the old place was that the moderation was generally all done behind-the-scenes, so when things got deleted there would be no note about it and no warning for other members not to do the same thing. If you enjoy a bit of gossip, you also missed out on all the fun when something big happened and a user got banned! The moderation on TVLF is much more visible, which is good to some degree, but I think it does become a bit tiring as not a day goes by where I don't see some a post where a user is being chastised or warned about something. It does also appear that Rob has to do the vast bulk of moderation himself - it's relatively rare that the other mods seem to publicly step in.

Now to be fair, this could just be because there does seem to have been a particular influx of young members recently. As others have said, it's good to have new people interested in presentation and we've all had our days of being an annoying so-and-so on the forum, but they're all quite prolific posters and often the posts don't add much to the conversation. In contrast, we've had some great new insiders join since TVF closed, but posts from these members do get lost amidst the petitions and other tedious fodder.

Ultimately though, I'm beginning to think that the reason I'm not enjoying the forum that much of late is more down to the attitude from some other members more than anything else, which I completely appreciate is difficult for the mod team to remedy by themselves! Views are increasingly polarised - when something happens it's either the best thing ever, or absolutely awful and the broadcaster involved should be ashamed of themselves. As a result, there seems to be much less in the way of measured debate than in the past, which just makes the Forum something of a tiring read at times.

Conscious of what I've just written being relatively negative, I would like to end things on a more positive note. The above is ultimately a shame because despite my reservations TVLF has taken on the mantle from TV Forum really well, and there are still plenty of great posts and members in the mix. It would just be a nice to have the balance of posts weighted more in favour of the interesting than of the banal!

But it was getting so tedious, repetitive and adding nothing to the discussion that it's hardly suprising.

I feel completely unable to keep up with it all to be honest. I think this is all because the logos and fonts but not the idents are changing? Doesn't really seem that exciting...

Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick.

Yes, it’s not a hugely enjoyable place to be at the moment and I fear today is going to be particularly painful given we have multiple forums to discuss what was always going to be a 12-month refresh with very little (relatively) changing on day one. A bit perplexing.

But to be fair, it wasn’t always going to be a gradual change. At first, some reported a one-hit effort, and that’s moved further from being the reality as time has gone on.

I can’t believe they’ve still gone ahead with a separate forum and about 15 new threads. When it became clear it wasn’t a Big Bang relaunch, it should have been downgraded to just a few threads in the usual forums

The pop-up forum idea may change this evening. I've been rather pre-occupied with work over the last few days, so I haven't had as much time to review the situation as I planned. This plan to have a pop-up forum was made a few months ago, and now that the rebrand is being done gradually, I'll move things around this evening, and remove the pop-up forum earlier than anticipated.

With hindsight, now knowing that the rebrand wasn't going to be as massive as we thought, maybe a pop up forum wasn't the best idea.

For now though, I'll leave things as they are. The BBC One and Two threads are serving their purpose, and the BBC Four, Scotland and Alba threads will come into play later this evening.

I appreciate your feedback on this, and will use it to plan any further rebrands in the future. In the meantime, I really MUST get ready for work... :)

It feels like some of the mods are hardly on the forum at all, though the problem with the "Moderator Message" box is that you're never sure who's actually delivered such a message. Then again, I'm still not sure I'd be able to list every mod on the forum some of them are so invisible.

EDIT: As regards what other people have said, I think part of the hype-building hasn't been helped by the cavalcade of new threads, most of which are effectively redundant. At the most, a few threads should have been added as sticky threads for a day or two.

The general atmosphere of the temporary subforum isn't exactly the most welcoming. On mobile, you arrive into the area with a huge red box, almost taking up the whole page, of new rules. These are then repeated in each of the new threads. It's over the top at best.

It *was* always going to be a gradual change. The one-hit effort idea came from people putting 2 and 2 together and getting 657 :-)
