What device do you general browse (and particularly post to) Metropol on?

Something I've wondered for a little while.

I have a penchant for writing fairly lengthy posts. Part of that is because I still prefer to have a desktop computer and sit at a desk with a full size keyboard where my typing speed is almost as fast as speech and it is very easy to accidentally reel off hundreds of words without particularly noticing how much is being written.

This is of course, a bit uncommon with most posts being short. When writing on WhatsApp or Facebook etc my own musings are also usually short because it's almost exclusively now done on a phone where it's much more of an effort to write more than a handful of words. I might read Metropol on my phone, but don't think I'd ever post from it.

I just wondered what sort of devices people commonly post from on here these days, whether it's a phone or a tablet or a cramped laptop keyboard. Or are most people still full size desktop warriors?

I do almost all my casual web browsing from a phone these days; it’s as good a way as any to occupy dead time. When I’m on a laptop or desktop it is usually with a specific purpose (work, content creation, etc).

Even though I also prefer a full size keyboard, I unquestionably type more words on my phone than my computer if they were added up across all contexts; the number of words typed into things like WhatsApp is actually quite scary to think about!

I’m the same as cdd pretty much; casual browsing is done on phone or ipad, desktop pc and laptop tends to be for work, content creation or software development, although as said, if I’m entering any lengthy amount of text, I’ll use either a laptop or desktop.

I use the desktop PC to post on forums. I haven't grasped or have the patience to type long posts to forums using my phone.

Same, I find myself constricted on a phone/tablet when writing posts that are longer than a couple of sentences' worth. I usually save my thoughts for when I'm sitting at the desktop with a nice big screen.

Nearly always my laptop to browse any forums.

In terms of browser, I've recently discovered Brave and haven't looked back. Really fast to use and I haven't seen an ad for a fortnight.

If you’ve got a little bit of time, and maybe a little bit of patience to set it up, I recommend https://pi-hole.net/

Had network level Adblock for a few years, for about 40 quid (for a raspberry pi3, case and sd card), you really notice how adverts slow down your browser

These are the stats right now, nearly 10% of all requests blocked. I also make a change to the config to force all dns look ups to have a ttl of one hour, whilst this does technically violate some rfc standard and mean that a website failover may not happen on my network as quickly as it should, it has made a perceptible difference to browsing performance.

Well, I’ve been using an iPhone 12 and the cookie to keep me logged in doesn’t seem to be working. I’ve cleared all site data, but I still get logged out even switching between forum index and thread view.

What am I to do?
