Thanks Mark, sorry Cyberdude.

You can do the survey for a £1.99 big mac if you like. You can tell them it was OK but the printed notices about everything being infected with peanuts were a little unsettling.

Clearly it's in its Alpha testing mode as I can't find anything about it on the internets anywhere! The machine is mounted on the counter next to the order collection point. The branding is very in-your-face mustard yellow background with an espresso machine handle, and the machine itself is bright yellow too.

The drinks range was identical to the standard offering, only around 20p more.
I never really thought that McDonalds coffee needed improving? It's by far the nicest fast food coffee offering.

McDonalds on the Strand had a separate McCafe area in the noughties, which was rather frustrating when I wanted a hot chocolate and would have to wait for it there after ordering food.

That's how it is at most of the McDonalds I've been to in Germany, presumably they were trying it out here.

what's this now?
I should have taken a picture - there is a stack of plastic table marker on either side of each screen. Each marker had a number in the 3xx range. When you select 'Eat In', rather than being asked to set a 'Zone' you're instructed to take table marker and type in the number. I believe this number then becomes your order number, but I didn't Eat In so I don't know for sure. The takeaway orders were still in the 0xx range and sequential from what I could gather though.

When your food is delivered, the staff member lakes your table marker and puts it back next to one of the screens.

I saw this in Grantham last weekend, I don't know if it's standard or some sort of trial.

Found in a high street branch in Blackpool. Sat upstairs deliberately somewhat out of easy view and they found us pretty quickly.

It's also been put in a couple of newly refurbed McDs here in Sheffield. Works far better than the zones because you don't have to try and work out which zone has spaces first and then dash over to the table. That and it's much easier for the staff to find you.

The only weird thing is there seems to be no return point for the table numbers.

Church Street, Croydon which had a refurb recently also has no table service zones, going for the numbered signs instead. Uxbridge doesn't and still uses the zones, although nobody uses table service there.

The Croydon table service is popular using the new scheme, so is working.

Is the return point not where you got it from? And shouldn’t staff take it from you once they’ve brought your order over?
