Has anyone here tried the taste sensation that is Irn-Bru Xtra? It's the Pepsi Max of Irn-Bru yet it's so much more.

It seems to be a result of Barr promising to focus all new products on being sugar free.

I must investigate this beast having developed a taste for sugar free pop this past year as a part of my weight loss regimen (3st 7lb and counting in 12 months).... Diet Coke is my go-to of choice in refillable chain restaurants like Nandos or Harvester - Coke Zero is just insipid. PepsiMax WAS my tipple of choice when buying in bulk until I found out about Pepsico being on Team Trump - I now quaff Aldi own-brand ZeroX instead which is just as nice. On the go: 7UP Light Mojito is nice, but the novelty wears off quick. Having been quite addicted to energy drinks beforehand I find the sugar free Monster Zero range to be very acceptable substitutes, the Relentless Zero also being good but the Rockstar Guava Zero is no substitute at all.

Apart from the odd energy drink on a cold dark early winter morning shift, I haven't drunk full-fat pop as a matter of course since last January, and it really does help if you need to shift some timber.

IF Barr manage to make Tizer sugar free and keep the taste, I'm in there like a shot.

I think it's a test. Apparently they're planning to cut down on sugar in their drinks. Wouldn't be surprised if Xtra is quickly axed (I've only seen it in Home Bargains), but the formulation becomes the new and improved regular Irn Bru. It certainly tastes like the original, anyway. :)

I've seen it at Heron Foods; Morrisons have just started stocking it in 2L bottles round here.

It's widely available in cans in Scotland. (including the Sainsbury's, Tescos and ASDAs I've visited). Only tried it for the first time yesterday, and agree it's pretty much the same taste as the original.

It's been available in Scotland since last August in most formats - can, 500ml and 2litre bottle and 750ml glass bottle. I also think it tastes much the same as original so have been buying it instead when I have the choice.

Guess it's been a success if it's rolling out UK-wide and I agree with JAS84 that it could well be a test to see how well received a sugar free version is before reducing the sugar in original.
