It makes me even more angry when the Scottish people bottled out of independence two years ago. As a result, they've managed to keep our retarded Sunday Trading laws in place. Not everyone works 9-5 Monday to Friday and goes to church on Sunday morning.

It's not 1976 no more.
AND? REALLY what is your point?

So your moaning at 56 Scottish mps for causing this mess? Not the fact there is 533 English mps who have the maj in that place? whats worse is the Tory government has a maj in that place, and it was same of those Tories mps who also hated this idea which caused this to fall.

Its not the fault of the SNP the Government was defeated on Sunday Trading, its the Government back benchers who are to blame.

That is true but the SNP make a brilliant scapegoat for the failure to pass as it means that the Conservatives don't have to admit that they are about as divided as the Labour party, something they almost certainly are intent on given the civil war they know is going to start around the time of the EU referendum. Also blaming all his issues on the SNP is all part of Cameron's "I wish Scotland would fuck off it's just I don't want to the PM that oversees the break up of the Union" rhetoric.

Yes but not everyone turns up to vote every day.

Don't forget that most MPs do only turn up to vote and don't even bother attending debates. Even the speaker, who lives in the Palace of Westminster, doesn't attend most debates. On top of that even if they did attend all the debates MPs would be working a max 4 1/2 day week with over 20 weeks of parliamentary recess. While in theory they should be doing constituency work, many MPs hold at best a monthly drop in surgery with most constituents having to book appointments outside this monthly occasion, though one MP for Middlesbrough infamously didn't hold a surgery for 15 years.

I can understand lower attendance for some MPs like those who represent Scotland, the North and Northern Ireland as it is harder for them to split time between their constituency and Westminster, but it'd be nice if one day you could flick on BBC Parliament and not be presented with predominantly green benches.

We're paying them to represent us. How many of the HoC debates do you take a 100% active interest in? All of them? Some of them? One or two that directly affect you? I'd say public apathy with politics breeds apathy in the chamber. Why would an MP bust his balls to vote on a minor amendment to a procedural bill when 99% of his/her constituents wouldn't care either way? MPs also have to hold local surgeries, attend party meetings both nationally and locally, travel abroad with delegations and occasionally have a home / family / private life.

I am in no way excusing any absenteeism or freeriding that some MPs do. But not all of them are Dennis Skinner or Nadine Dorries (she always seems to be there!)

Remember too that not all the business of the Commons takes place in the Commons chamber - this Monday, for example, there are simultaneous debates in the main chamber, Westminster Hall, General Committees and about 6 different Select Committees.
