Ah, should have returned to the thread slightly sooner! Thanks so much for putting the offer out there for Metro users, as from looking invites don't seem to be the easiest things to procure!

Will, I popped into town yesterday and eventually found a Passport in an EE store (Carphone Warehouse had a lot of dummy models of phones, including high-end devices?), and it felt... weird? It's a reasonably weighty thing which you have to cradle from the bottom because of the placement of the keyboard, and I didn't feel like I had the most secure of grips on it! The keyboard itself was also slightly strange to me due to the lack of a shift key, numerals etc which mean you have to use the touch screen, which wasn't always showing me numbers, and the placement of the space bar in the middle of the bottom row was also something I struggled with. Obviously over time I would adjust to the layout and I'm sure it wouldn't inconvenience me long-term, but it did seem slightly off-putting - but if I haven't decided by the time it becomes available I will go and play with a Classic, as it has the traditional keyboard I know and enjoyed before! The OS seemed pretty solid and the Android apps loaded on did indeed work perfectly, so clearly a major step-up there, although I don't think it's been communicated enough as until you told me I had no idea how the OS and app support had changed!

Vodafone are currently doing an iPhone 6 with 600 minutes, Unlimited texts and 1gb of data for £38.50 a month, no upfront, which is pretty good. 1gb of data is more than I have now, so it should be fine, but 4G hasn't made it to Ipswich on Voda yet, although O2, EE and Three all have it here. 3G at work is 'outdoors only' according to the signal page, the same as O2 and it annoys the hell out of me. Do they practice the Orange-introduced 'Hello, we're increasing the price of your contract lol' policy, as I've read conflicting answers about whether they do or don't?

Massive kudos for going out of your way to try BB10. You're right. They've basically stopped marketing at this stage, and they're letting the people that want them find them. Interesting to see EE are stocking them though, they didn't at launch - so perhaps there's a healthy undercurrent of demand for them?

My contract with Vodafone went up by a few pence towards the end of its life IIRC. If you go with Vodafone, really stay on top of your payments - they show absolutely no leniancy with absolutely every issue recorded on your credit files.

Took me a few weeks to get round to doing it, but I've finally settled on an iPhone 6 for £29.50 a month on Vodafone, no upfront cost! Minutes/texts/data works out at 600 mins, Unlimited texts and 1gb of data, which is double my existing so should be good enough! Quite surprised the price ended up being so low, I was looking at £35 a month minimum!

Thanks to everyone who chipped in with advice - I nearly ended up with every phone suggested along the way!

I've had my lovely iPhone for about a month now, and I am very happy with it. My only problems with it have been Vodafone coverage in my local area, and Touch ID not working very well. Touch ID fixed itself after using it for a few days, but my Vodafone issues are only now at an end after more than a month!

Basically, I've had no coverage when at home or in my local area, bar a few occasions where I've gotten one bar for a few minutes and then lost it again. The coverage checker has suggested throughout that there's nothing wrong and that I should be fine, but speaking to the help people and I've been told that there is a problem and that they want to fix it. However, no-one quite seemed to know when they were going to fix it, until someone finally told me it had been noted as happening this week. As a result I've had a lovely phone that's not been very useful for texts or calls whilst at home. Vodafone have told me every time I've spoken to them that they will compensate me, and I'm in the process of sorting this out now, although the person on the web chat I'm talking to(I assume it's a person, maybe it's a bot), seems quite resistant. I've just been offered a 25% refund for the past month, which seems a little stingy, as I'm sure I've spent more than 25% of my time in the affected area. Is there anything I can do to increase the settlement, as it were?

EDIT: Ended up getting a refund for the full month rather than something like £7, after voicing my 'concern' that they had fulfilled an exit clause in their contract which said I could leave if they were unable to provide a service for more than 7 days.

I don't like to triple post but it turns out Vodafone has only refunded me 25% of a month's line rental, rather than the full 100%! Spoke to a Vodafone representative briefly yesterday who said that I had been able to use the phone during the outage period and that a partial refund was all they could do - I told them I'd be back in touch! They say that the person I spoke to didn't have approval to refund an entire month, but I dispute this as in the text chat, which I have a record of, he says he has been given approval and that the credit has already been applied... Very annoyed that they've seemingly gone back on their word, and will pursue this again tonight. Any advice on what action to take, and whether I can now squeeze further compensation out of them, would be appreciated!

If you have written contact, then they can't dispute it. Tell them that you were given written guarantees of the refund, and you want the refund that you're entitled to.

Imagine Anne Robinson's face when you're on the phone to them, and things should turn out fine.

^Got the previous problem sorted out. The next person I spoke to argued for a while and then refunded the full 100%, so I ended up with a 125% refund for that month.

Moving on to my next problem (all of the issues have been with Vodafone, not the phone), and I get an incredible number of texts and calls from people who are trying to speak to the person who had the phone number before me, seemingly as they've done a rubbish job at telling people they have a new phone number (or the previous person didn't like these people very much and so didn't give them their new number!) I've had phone calls from some man who turned out to be the parent of the previous number holder, and texts from all manner of people, from whom I have gathered a great amount of knowledge as to what type of person the number holder before me was!

Presumably the networks reassign out of use phone numbers, but is there an amount of time they wait between the old person disconnecting and the number being reassigned? The fact I was getting calls from close family members suggests that there wasn't a long period of time where the phone number was inactive, as it wouldn't be so frequently contacted if it had been out of use for a while. Are we experiencing a new phone number shortage of something?

Voda want to charge me £25 for a new phone number. Fuck off.

I remember in our student house we got almost constant calls from random debt collection agencies demanding to speak to Jane. They obviously thought I was chatting shit when I said there was nobody with that name at the address, as they'd ring 4 or 5 times per day. We "resolved" that by just turning off the thing's ringer. My impression was that landline numbers are running out in places (hence "dial the code" and all that) but mobile numbers are plentiful...

Vodafone are utter balls.

Can you not just get one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EE-4G-Pay-As- ... 28003981f7, use it for a couple of days, then get the PAC number and transfer it?

I know when I took out a contract with them (7 bloody years ago now) you had to have your PAC code before your contract started. It struck me as bollocks then as it does now, but this form on their website suggests that has changed: http://www.vodafone.co.uk/explore/benef ... my-number/

Moto G Update

2nd Gen 4G version getting slated on professional reviews as being WORSE than the cheaper Moto E 2nd Gen 4G (Moto E has lower res screen, no camera flash and...er...that's about it.)

Rumours circulating that THIRD MotoG in just over 20 months is about to be launched - FlipKart had a listing which has since been deleted. Specs still about online mind.

Anyone else find it weird that carphonewarehouse.co.uk doesn't exist, or doesn't redirect to carphonewarehouse.com?
