I've seen a "Birthdays Outlet" in McArthur Glen York, just thought it was one of these fakey outlet shops like Virgin/Zavvi used to have there.
There certainly used to be a Clinton store in Ipswich - the buttermarket I think - that sold old stock. Not sure if it was all old or had a small seasonal section of new stock.
How long ago was this? It's certainly not with us anymore, but there is a Clintona near town hall.

Always found the prices in Clintons ridiculously expensive, when you can get the same quality for the aforementioned 7 for £1.

You see, that's listing the one next to Town Hall and the Market, opposite Debenhams.

I'm confused are the following two addresses also the same location?

2-6 CORNHILL
IP1 1DD IPSWICH, SUFFOLK

1-3 Westgate Street
City Centre, Ipswich IP1 1DD

Well, the junction of Westgate Street and Tavern street is quite close to Clinton cards, with Tavern street being one end of the main highstreet, and Westgate street the other, I think. Cornhill would be around the Corn Exchange, however, that particular address is a backroad, so it could be possible for that to be a deliveres entrance or something. Not sure though, as all 3 addresses are slightly different. All addresses you've listed aren't at the Buttermarket, certainly.

Sorry this is showing the weakness in my knowledge of Ipswich. It wasn't Buttermaket but in fact was Tower Ramparts.

The first address I posted should have been prefixed with 7 Tower Ramparts.

Okay, I see. That would make more sense. I vaguely remember a card shop being in Tower Ramparts for a while, near the post office, so you are probably right there.

Ah yes, that closed recently, ISTR, and it did sell cheaper cards (old stock) than the main Clinton Cards which is situated on the Cornhill.

There is a Clintons Outlet in 'The Core' shopping centre in Leeds.

I'd say their biggest issue is the very same one that Game have - they have a ridiculously expansive store estate. Until recently Clintons had 4 (yes FOUR) shops within a two minute walk of each other in Plymouth City Centre (two Clintons, two Birthday's). There is certainly room for a specialist card retailer, and they don't all have to be bargain basement places, there is also room for a premium product (although as an aside, Clintons really do need to learn that simply charging a premium price for something does not in itself equal a premium product. People really will notice if you can buy the same card from the market for a fifth of the cost).

But there is not room for having multiple Clinton Cards stores around the corner from each other as well as a nearby Birthday's store which Clintons own, and then shoving a Clinton Cards store into every minor outlying shopping parade like they're Tesco Metro.

They should've done what Santander did, and closed some branches after they took over Birthdays. In Hull, there was a Bradford and Bingley right opposite an Alliance & Leicester, with an Abbey a couple of streets away. Though all three were initially rebranded as Santander after they bought B&B and A&L at the start of the credit crunch, the former B&B has since closed down, presumably when the lease expired.
