bizarrely in Southampton Dorothy Perkins and Burtons will be reopening in part of the old BHS unit! With Sports Direct moving to the remainder of the unit from West Quay!
It could be that they're moving to a bigger unit nearby. I think Terry Leahy's trying to expand the furniture range into sofas, dining tables, etc, which the Woolies units are too small for. This is what happened in Macclesfield; they moved their existing store to the much larger unit left empty by TJ Hughes, which was a former Sainsbury's.Neil DG wrote:Everything going okay with B&M?
The store in Stretford Mall (in a former Woolies unit) is closing down.
B&M are notoriously ruthless with landlords if they don't get their way. When they were refused permission to sell more food at Kingsway West retail park they just shut the shop and opened a replacement in the old virgin megastore in the city centre. They then rented the old B&Q at Kingsway East
"He has to be larger than bacon"
Entirely true. At one point a good number of their leases were rent-free I believe.Pete wrote:B&M are notoriously ruthless with landlords if they don't get their way. Ah, and I believe the owners of Stretford Mall are notorious for not being reasonable about rent.Pete wrote:B&M are notoriously ruthless with landlords if they don't get their way. Discount shoe retailer Brantano has gone into administration, about four months after the chain was bought by an investment firm.
