Why there is no such thing as a 24 Hour Tesco Store

I was at a Tesco Extra the other day, which is actually bigger than my normal Tesco, and there is a sign above the TESCO logo saying that it is a 24-Hr store. Well inside, the opening times actually say that Monday - Saturday: 00:01 - 23:59 & Sunday: 10:00 - 16:00. That means that is not a 24 hour store, and that for some reason it is closed of 2 minutes on a Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday night. Firstly, why a 2 minute closure, and how is it then 24 hours?

No, really? If only they had something in the name which suggested that it might be bigge...Ah. Yes.

I doubt it means that. I'd suggest it's more likely to be 00:01 Monday right through til 23.59 Saturday.

Tesco is a weird place at the best of times, but not so much that they'd close two MINUTES every night.

Where is this particular Tesco, anyway?

For that matter, have rules been relaxed on 24 hour opening? I notice my own store (24 hour opening Mon through Sat) now stays open til the very end of Saturday...

Scotland has proper 24/7 Tescos that only close on Christmas. It's the antiquated Sunday Trading Laws that exist in England that are the issue.

Having said that, not all our 24hr Tescos are proper 24hr. Galashiels closes between 2 and 4 on Saturday Night/Sunday morning as it's one of the ones with travellators and is very close to the nightclubs...

I do wish they'd overhaul the Sunday laws down here.

I understand people's wish to keep Sunday sacred and all that, but TBH nobody'd be forcing them to go into a supermarket on a Sunday, would they?

No 6 hours on a Sunday is enough for anyone.

It's enough from the point of view of my Dotcom drivers, who loathe the one Sunday of the year that we deliver up until 11pm.

Scotland you can Shop 24 hours a day * expect the western isle, But can only by "drink" for 12 hours of that day 10am - 10pm. there no rules for Bank holidays, I believe that reason is because most people are never off on the same day a bank holiday up here.

The Tesco is just outside of Ipswich, outskirts of A12/A14 and the signage inside does say 00:01 - 23:59 Monday to Saturday. If they close for two minutes, I do not know, but there is a two minute gap it seems. The times weren't the original, as they are written on some form of tape and stuck over what were different hours.

For the sake of getting people out and back in, I really can't see it shutting. Till updates wouldn't be guaranteed to fit into two minutes either. I'd say it's just badly worded.

Great, now I have a detour and drive to make.
Day Open Closed
Monday 0600 2359
Tuesday 24 hours
Wednesday 24 hours
Thursday 24 hours
Friday 24 hours
Saturday 24 hours
Sunday 1000 1600
That's what online says, but as I say, sign's have been covered and the 00:01 to 23:59 have been put in.
