Windows 7
Freezes randomly with CPU and graphics card usage at nothing remotely high. Not caused by virus scanner. Ran happily for half an hour in safe mode so I guess this is going to be trial and error. Balls to it. I'm going to the pub.
Update: Definitely hates my graphics card. Works fine without it, crashes and dies with it, so a new one required. Must say Windows 7 appears faster than XP on this machine.

As I'm replying to myself I'll first tell you that since I changed the graphics card Windows 7 has been running very nicely thank you.

Amazon US are doing them.davidmcg wrote:Where can you get the upgrades though, im assuming these are from PC's bought from this month onwards.
Apparently a similar programme will happen on Amazon UK and other selected outlets from July 15th until August 14th, while stock lasts. Quite how one can define Windows 7 as "stock" when it hasn't even been released for mass-distribution yet is beyond me but there you go.
Customers who will buy a new a new Windows Vista machine between now and October 22 would get free upgrades to their respective versions of Windows 7. The offer is available for Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate editions. Computers shipped with Windows Vista Home Basic will not be eligible for an upgrade. The offer runs until January 2010.
There is no "upgrade" from XP. The machine will have to be wiped. You can upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 if you really want to but since in-place upgrades rarely work, it's probably not a good idea.
Anyone know where I can ind a driver for my graphics card by the way? its a Mobile Intel(R) 45 Express Chipset Family for a Samsung R510 laptop now running Win 7?

Windows Update had a lot of Intel drivers for Vista machines so you may find one there.davidmcg wrote:Anyone?davidmcg wrote:Anyone know where I can ind a driver for my graphics card by the way? its a Mobile Intel(R) 45 Express Chipset Family for a Samsung R510 laptop now running Win 7?
Alternatively since Windows 7 is effectively a better version of Vista in different colours, sometimes you can feed it a Vista driver from the Samsung website:

Who do I complain to about the bloody lack of a browser for the European market. Bloody stupid idea, just a hassle. I know most people will buy a PC with the browser pre loaded but I have to keep a copy of fierfox on the network now just in case! GURRRR
