Adverts that irritate and entertain

I find the amount of dry Weetabix shown in their ad quite disconcerting. My mouth dries out just watching this:

I knew the second I saw this ad that it would be banned. It looked exactly like they were offering a service where you could get multiple takeaways from different companies in one order. What were they thinking?

I’m astonished by the spokeswoman they quote in that article. No apology or admitting they got it wrong, she even seems to imply that the ASA or even the people who complained are idiots who misunderstood the ad, when they were the ones who misrepresented their own service.

My exact first comment when I saw the ad was "well that's nothing like real life. 1) nothing ever arrives at the same time and 2) you'd get 14 deliveries from 12 different takeaways".

Lots of complaints about the peloton advert where a woman suffers life changing exercise over a year to go from 116 pounds to 112 after her sexist boyfriend buys her a Christmas present.

That EE 5G ad, it feels like they think it's really impressive but boy, you had to be there didn't you. It cuts so fast you can barely process what's going on and when you can make it out it's so meh.

I like that dementia charity ad that's just started running. A young boy pranks his family. But they use normal words instead of swearing ("Oh fudge!"). After visiting his grandfather who doesn't remember him, he goes to his bedroom when he goes home. Dad goes to see what's up, as he's clearly upset. But as he walks through the door he steps on something painful... "Gotcha! Pay up!". The pranks were an attempt to fill a swear jar to raise money for the charity.

As if Coronavirus and the lockdown couldn't get any worse, Nationwide have filmed a load of new poetry adverts and they're as toe-curling as ever.

I think I'm looking forward more to ad breaks no longer being full of Zoom-based adverts than I'm looking forward to freedom itself. I appreciate there's extremely limited resources available but it's kind of amazing that so many companies have gone for a series of their own employees saying basically the same thing ("These are really difficult times", "But we're always here for you" etc.) ending with someone's cat walking into shot because cats r cute. They're all merging into one now and I'm struggling to think of which one belongs to which company. It's a shame more haven't taken the Sainsbury's route as there are hundreds of great animators sitting at home twiddling their thumbs that could be making much more memorable adverts.

Needless to say the sheer amount of webcam use in daily life is not something I'll miss when this is over!

The new way they say “PlayStation” at the end of ads for PlayStation games sounds incredibly cheap and annoying. Here’s an example:

Please tell me Asda hasn't scrapped their pretty decent Dianne Morgan voiced campaign for whatever the fuck this weird, fake DIY thing is that they've started airing this week.

Though I can't say I particularly liked the Diane Morgan ads, that new one is dire.

as cringey as they are, I do appreciate that they show a family going to do their big shop with a bike trailer.
