Most delays at self service checkouts these days are more the staff not paying attention to the red lights when something needs approving. My local Morrisons has one member of staff who works it pretty much all the time and she’s so on the ball it’s unreal - I’d hate to see how many steps a day she gets in whizzing backwards and forwards. She also reminds me of the lady off BGT who played the keyboard on an ironing board which I always enjoy.

I'm starting to think Amazon are allergic to South London.

The Islington Amazon Fresh store was recently approved by the council so that's likely for next month or August.

Anyone else finding issues with Lidls lately?

I've been doing my parents shopping there since lockdown 1 every week, but over the last month especially the last 2 weeks, the amount of gaps on stock on the shelves has been similar to March 2020 and panic buying.

For example, no cat food, little frozen foods, no baked beans, no tinned fish. The alcohol section also looking very bare. The fruit and veg hasn't been good quality either.

I put it down to my local shop at Plympton, but I've even been to other branches in Plymouth and its much the same.

It's also been mentioned by some work colleagues just how bad it's become.

Anyone else spotted this?

There are some pretty major issues with truck drivers at the moment - specifically a lack of them - causing lots of problems throughout the food chain. I've heard about containers waiting at Felixstowe for a couple of weeks. I'm told there's no end in sight to the problem and it will start affecting stores soon - could well be the start of this at Lidl.

What's the root cause of this? Brexit?

I believe part of it is a change to the licence required to drive that’s been brought in. I’m not sure of the details but a delivery driver to my work said that essentially any drivers of a certain age have decided it’s not worth the cost if they’re close to retiring, and the numbers going into it are low amongst younger adults. Could be horseshit but that’s what he said.

I think I missed this at the time, but Sainsbury's have dropped "Live Well for Less" in favour of "Helping Everyone Eat Better".

Not sure how committed they are to it though - I saw two of their home delivery vans next to each other, and one had the former slogan (and wavy line) while the other was just the logo on its own. Same stock photo carrots.
