I didn't even realise Sussex Stationers is no more. Spent plenty of time in those stores when I lived in Sussex.

They've got a few WHSmith in disguise brands for train station cafes too.
Books and Stationers Ltd appears to be a wholly owned subsidiary of WHSmith High Street Holdings Ltd - ie the owner of all the non-travel stores. Not sure why they'd have some stores in a separate trading company, unless they were planning to sell them off or something.
WHSmith purchased this brand in 2011 when the original company went bust. They now operate a handful of British Bookshops and Stationers within the South East (Mainly Sussex)
I’m guessing in my case it might have just been a normal WHSmith using the wrong till roll then.

UPDATE: the multicoloured fascia has been removed. Must've needed planning permission or something.

Don't really know where to put this but it doesn't need a new thread. Went to B&Q in Aintree last week, and they've removed the self-service checkouts. Looking on Twitter, it appears they've done this in other locations too. Apparently it's because of too many people stealing.

It's not only that, it's also because they're shit. They had to remove the cash because that used to clog up constantly even without the presence of soil, and the software was so flakey people used to get wound up and accidentally not pay for things. It's why they've put effort into doing up the manned checkouts to try and get things added to the belts. Then there is less left on the trolley to focus on.

Did a bit of further research and came across this article from The Times from last month, which features this bit:
B&Q is in the process of removing all self-service tills and Morrisons has paused the wider introduction of its machines after customers complained they found them impersonal.

Which branches of Morrisons don't have them? Even the relatively small ex-Safeway in Rugeley had them a few years ago.

The previous Morrisons self-checkouts were bloody awful, but the current ones are fine.

I wonder if they mean the self-checkouts with conveyors?

What are both Nixdorf models?
