;)
Thanks for alerting me to those minor validation errors. I'll fix 'em up a.s.a.p . . . !

As for that "anti IE passage", I certainly wouldn't publish it on my site if it wasn't true.
Even though the original version of that particular essay wasn't written by me, I have
added some information regarding the forthcoming Service Pack 2 for Windows XP,
which will add Mozilla App-Suite/Firefox style popup blocking functionality to IE6.

Although I agree, that it's up to the end user which browser they chose to use, I'm
merely providing essential info about MSIE, that most users might not know about.
The whole point of the web, is to provide a completely open information resource
and I'm taking advantage of that to inform people of the dangers of using IE, and
that there are better options available. I've highlighted Mozilla, as I believe it to
be currently the best available alternative to IE. Whether visitors to my site
act upon any of the information therein, it is entirely up to them

Bear in mind, that my site is currently incomplete, and what's available now is only
in beta, and subject to change at anytime. That's partly why some pages may not
validate correctly yet. The full version of DJGM Online will have a somewhat more
comprehensive "aboutbrowsers" section, which will include information on other
alternatives to IE, such as Opera, Netscape, KMeleon, and those "wraparound"
browsers that add a different UI, and Mozilla/Opera style functionality to IE.

If you think I'm just an anti-IE zealot, and perhaps I am to a certain extent, you
really ain't seen nothing yet, until you've seen toastytech.com! Now there's
a site created by an anti-IE and anti-MS zealot of the most extreme kind!
(The "Wacky Windows Errors" page is moderately funny though.)

You might be surprised to learn, that although I thoroughly dislike IE, I actually do
not feel the same about all of Microsoft's products. Take MS Office for instance.
While the likes of OpenOffice and StarOffice provide decent alternatives, IMHO
they're still not quite as good as MS Office. My only grudge against MS Office,
is the fact that it's just prohibitively overpriced for a lot of people to afford.

If I disliked Windows as much I dislike IE, I would've long since gone for either
a complete Linux, UNIX, or Mac OS solution, instead of having three seperate
(and completely legit) versions of Windows installed on this PC, alongside
the one installation of SUSE Linux. I even have Windows on my iMac!

although you did miss out the update to IE's MIME type handling in SP2 aswell which is the main point of the original essay.

As well as being childish, it's also very boring having an argument about MIME type handling, Service Pack 2 and SUSE Linux.

Grow up and get a life. Otherwise put this rubbish elsewhere.

Lets get this back on topic - did the instructions that I pointed you at on the second page of this thread help DAS?

Well I followed that advice and some of the hijinks disappeared, but not all of it. So it appears I had a few bits of spyware on there at once. So thanks for that.

I got advice from a board called thetechguy which was very helpful. So if you have any problems with trojans and spyware and things, I recommend that place.

Cheers.

Ok, DAS, I've read through and with all the compliance ramblings I've completely lost count of whether you've deleted the item from your favourites or not.

Have you tried booting into DOS (I swear the option's still there in XP - hit F8 before booting to Windows commenses) and then moving into the Favourites folder (someone posted the address earlier - Page 1 methinks)? You can then hopefully delete the file without any processes stopping you from doing so.

Ick - afterthought - it doesn't exist, does it? This may not be possible then. Although if it's just a link (.lnk, .fav, whatever they're stored as) then you might be able to.

Meh well, it's still worth a try - if you haven't already managed to get rid of it.

Oh, and thanks to whoever suggested Ad-Aware. I've been searching for an Adware Remover for months and haven't been able to find any decent free ones anywhere. That one works perfectly.

Although I guess I'm a reboot away from finding out if everything comes flooding back when I restart. Adware seriously sucks, that's one of the major downsides to the internet at this time.

Please, nobody tell me that moving to Mozilla will stop all this happening. Oh, and don't tell me to be more careful about what I accept either. I'm very careful not to click Yes on dialogue boxes unless I know exactly what they do and have requested them. A few months ago I had a Porn Dialer install itself and dial without me doing anything - no clicking yes. Unfortunately this was due to me clicking on a link my friend sent me in MSN which happened to be to a porn site (que many people giving me sarcastic 'sure' remarks). I admit this part made me slightly blameful (the opposite of blameless? ) but still, there were definately no Do you want to install this porn dialer which will charge a mystery £1.50 to your account popups!
