Lots of people I know still use the classic theme, I really don't like it - It's nearly ten years (god - has it really been that long??!?!) since Windows 95 screenshots and betas started to appear and the classic interface has changed little since then - it now looks dated and bland.

I hate the look of that, and I am very thankful that that wasnt what we ended up with. I prefer the look of the beta.

I trust that by this you mean "do you prefer the bright white start menu and blue/green setup as installed by Windows XP by default, or do you switch all that off so it looks and behaves like Win9x?"

I set this one up to look and behave like Win9x. I don't like the blue/green theme that is set as default when one installs XP, and the new Start Menu is absolutely awful and cluttered IMO. That was the first thing that turned classic after the colours.

XP Luna?

I dont like the look of the alpha windows 95, with each icon suffixed with ">>".

I use modern on my XP, as it looks better and after five years of using 98, grey starts to get crap, plus the blue is far nicer.

Our college uses XP but they use the classic style, though it feels like that you are using an older system. Though due to restrictions on our system we can't change it to modern, as it looks nicer.

Interesting stuff. There's nothing wrong with the 98/Me/2000 interface and I don't think it looks dated - but the XP "classic" skin just looks disgusting and isn't actually like the "classic" interface in many ways.
Yep, Microsoft seem to have made sure that the old interface is an unattractive option. There are differences between it and the 'real' classic interface - aswell as it being more awkward to configure.
I don't like the XP Luna interface much either.
I think Microsoft shot themselves in the foot with Luna by locking you into themes. Having the interface objects loaded from image files rather than rendered by the operating system might allow for my wizzy bangy graphics, but it also means that you can't configure it in the same way. I don't actually think that Luna is that nasty in itself, but I don't like any of the 3 colour schemes you've got to choose from and I don't like the font used in the title bar. I liked the familiar 'adapted slate' colour scheme I'd been using for years and wanted to keep it on. But because it's a theme, I can't adapt it to fit in with the way I like it to look.
