Re: Coronavirus - Strange times
It's a bit like the 'hygiene theatre' of being asked to clean your trolley handle on the way into a store. Mexico has some of the sillier ones. Many shops have decontamination mats (foot-and-mouth throwback…) and one airport lounge had someone with a spray gun covering everyone and their clothes wi...

Re: Coronavirus - Strange times
I’ve been to a few places where they just put soap in the dispensers. Got fed up with hand sanitiser roulette ages ago.

Re: Coronavirus - Strange times
What has struck me about Covid since Delta (and I know this is purely anecdotal!) is how little correlation there seems to be between people I know who have/haven’t had it, and how ‘careful’ they are. I suspect the risks of everyday interactions are underestimated, and the risks of unusual interacti...

Re: Coronavirus - Strange times
Under your scenario, you want to seriously hamper widespread LFTs by charging for them for some reason. According to The Times (and only a week later!), it appears it’s not such an unthinkable plan after all. My views are obvious: I think this is well overdue. That said, I’ll continue to purchase t...

Re: Coronavirus - Strange times
Widespread PCR testing shouldn't come to an end because someone like yourself arbitrarily decides that enough money has been spent. My objection is not that “enough money has been spent”. I’m happy for money to be spent indefinitely as long as that is the best use of the money. In this case I’m not...

Re: Unexpectedly leaving a sour taste in one's mouth
I can’t swallow pills(…) and cavalierly bite into any pill. I had been ticking along fine for years until I chomped into one of those. Never again. I was nearly sick and my mouth felt like it was on fire. In fact it was years ago and I still remember the taste vividly.

Re: Coronavirus - Strange times
Yes, I'm sure all the data gathered from the widespread PCR testing has no scientific value at all... I didn’t say it had “no” value. Nuance seems to get lost online! I questioned whether it was worth the astronomical cost. What do you think the advantages are of widespread PCR testing, as opposed ...

Re: Coronavirus - Strange times
If we're reaching the point where it's not going to kill or hospitalise significant numbers of people, will there really be any reason to keep the endless testing and isolation requirements anyway? To be honest, I’m not sure testing is delivering that much value right now (certainly not enough to j...

Re: Coronavirus - Strange times
I'm not sure wishing for deaths to prove a point is exactly a good look. Well of course, once the NHS *is* overloaded to the point of causing a significant number of excess deaths there is no alternative but to restrict. But I’m talking about the discourse in advance of restrictions. I have rarely ...

Re: Coronavirus - Strange times
They've become far too normalised. Hearing far too many people now who think we should be bringing back restrictions every winter now- if a totalitarian country had been doing that pre-2019 everyone would be seeing it as unacceptable. What’s surprising is that it’s often those on the political left...
