Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread

Nationwide's press release about the Branch Promise said: The Promise ensures the Society is protecting branches and we will only close a branch when we absolutely need to, for example a lease expiry enforced by the landlord. They repeated that line when announcing the Virgin Money offer , specifyi...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread

That'll change when the Virgin Money takeover goes through. I can't see them keeping branches of both open long term if they're close to each other. Probably the reason their promise is only to 2026, two years from now. You're wrong on both accounts: We know branches are important to our customers....

*when they have - most recently in Feb 2023.

They haven't announced any closures since 2022 and no further closures are planned.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Retail parks often de-brand units following the closure of a unit, presumably it looks better to have an 'empty' unit than a closed one. Meadowhall used to go to great efforts to completely hide closed store fronts, boxing the whole thing over - although I noticed during covid when they lost a whole...

It looks like the prehistoric IBM/Toshiba tills at ASDA are finally being replaced with a new system with an NCR touchscreen - perhaps as part of the decoupling from Walmart. https://up.metropol247.co.uk/woah/thumbs/Asda.jpg Oooo. I noticed the Asda Express filling station (recently very cheaply co...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

Debit cards can be used offline. Not universally. Online only debit cards, which may or may not be branded differently from offline-enabled debit cards, are a thing, and have been since Visa retired the Electron brand in the UK (at least). When they first moved to Visa from Solo/Maestro Natwest and...

Surely?

Is it not?

Do they?

Credit to my nearest Sainsbury's for the detailed information. https://up.metropol247.co.uk/Martin%20Phillp/GIzL-9LWEAAee-t.jpg The self-checkouts were open, although I did notice when I scanned my Nectar card that the till froze for around 10-15 seconds, but was accepted and got Nectar prices on a...

Subway is the one that has been most mullered by adding delivery in, in my experience. It used to be you could walk up and just expect it to take 2 mins + 1 min for each customer ahead of you. Now you can see an empty counter but still have a 10 min wait while they put several delivery orders togeth...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread

Not being able to pay in at the Post Office is also a pain. I'm guessing that this is due to them being a Building Society rather than a bank, despite the impression they try to give in their recent advertising and dropping "Building Society" from the logo. Not as far as I know, although ...
