Re: Yet another Morrisons thread

Just came back from Morrison's before by god are the stores in a shocking state lately as if maintenance just isn't happening and it's not just one store either, they're all as bad as each other locally ie. Buckets in the aisles collecting water from leaking roofs, whole aisles of fridges broken (no...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

a McDonald's drive-thru On first glance I wondered if that was Silverlink which I think was the first drive-thru in Tyneside but its actually the one at West Denton. If you use the little go back in time tool it seems it had quite the retro drive thru until well into 2008 with it only getting the f...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

are the ARC / IMO car washes also owned (or at least land leased by) Asda? I've never seen an asda car wash but there are lots of IMOs next to, but not part of, Asda branches. There's drive thru car washes at both Blyth and Hartlepool which aren't converted. There's also a Jetwash at both Ashington...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

Safeway can go and shove it with those fantastic images. Totally agreed, it's crazy how over designed the 90's Morrison's stores were for effectively a little supermarket in the North at the time. The stores definitely went downhill after the Safeway takeover trying to force Market Street into them...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

Spennymoor has always had a little shop, but yes that would seem to be an outlier. They added a forecourt to the Byker store in the last few years. Surprisingly, it has an old school staffed drive thru booth and only two of the pumps are P@P. No idea why. Ah I assumed that was an ex co-op or someth...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

the Asda in Govan has never had a shop - I think it was built with a drive-through kiosk (and possibly pay at pump only for some of the lanes). It must be about 25 years old. Aren't all ASDA stores like that, all the ones I've ever been including pretty much all of them in the North East which aren...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

Never realised the Wilkinsons in North Shields used to be a supermarket aswell but makes sense thinking about it now, guessing that shut at the same time as Preston Grange as it's always been Wilkinson's in my life time. Yeah Safeway in the Beacon Centre closed in 1995. That nightmare of a cafe has...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

Don't believe so. Redcar was never a Safeway. It was built as a Morrison's in the 90's I believe. I can remember my local store (Tynemouth) definitely used to have a system back in the 90's so I believe all the stores had them at some point. Do you recall the replacement Preston Grange Presto that ...
