Re: Sorely tempted to

Has anyone EVER gone to prison for non-payment of the Fee, or is it one of those propaganda pieces churned out by the collection agency? Whilst you can go to prison for debt in England and Wales, you CANNOT be put in jail in Scotland for the same. Don't know, but there is some irony in that prisone...

Re: Local radio rebrands as Heart FM

Who was that chap who voiced the overnight announcement back in the very early days, when they closed down overnight? An excellent voice! Would have probably been past my bedtime, but I'm sure he was wonderful. Feel free to post us some audio if you still have it! Love the badge too - my sister had...

Re: Sorely tempted to

Such a law would be really quite damaging to the license the fee, which many feel is outdated already, this would just about tip public opinion over to the point where it was largely opposed to the fee. Given that you can currently receive a £1000 fine or even a prison sentence for non-payment, I t...

Re: Local radio rebrands as Heart FM

Monday 23rd March is the date when another 12 stations become Heart, according to Radio Today . Big names going include GWR Bristol and Wiltshire, Gemini FM, 2-Ten FM and Severn Sound. I'll be especially sad to see Severn Sound renamed, as it was the station I grew up with. I have many memories of g...

Re: Robert Peston is a cock... but who else?

The problem I have with Peston is that I rarely take in anything he has to say, as I'm always distracted by his odd delivery. Plus, when doing PTCs, he always appears to be miming masturbating with his left hand, which makes me worry that he really is getting disturbingly excited by the economic dow...

Re: Widescreen TV

In short, yes it is. Most widescreen broadcasts and storage media will have a non-square pixel 4:3 image resolution. Sky for example is 720x576 (except ITV), which will be stretched to 16:9 - by comparison, the true PAL 16:9 square pixel size should be 1024x576. I believe ITV broadcasts 544x576, or...

Re: Spotting Squarials

Considering Sky ceased using Marcopolo in 1992, it's quite surprising to still see many squarials still about, you don't see any old Sky Analogue dishes these days, especially those vulgar white ones with Amstrad on them. You do still see quite a few of the later black mesh ones though - the big ro...

Re: Notification from Sky about Five

I thought that was a bit strange. Although I can't remember if Five broadcast different regional variants for advertising purposes on DSat.

Re: How to Watch Television

Most people I know now seem to have their TV's set in the right picture mode, a friend of mine has Sky HD and it looks stunning, but obviously that's HD anyway and that it's only in 16:9. My TV has the capability to stretch a 4:3 cutout to 16:9 stretchyvision, even in HD, so I'd wager that some hav...

Notification from Sky about Five

I was surprised to receive a postcard today from Sky saying that Five would be making changes to their service on 8th December "in your area". Apparently this will mean any scheduled recordings for that day or after won't work, and you'll have to re-add any programmes on Five from the afte...

Re: Sky Anytime

I think since it launched, the selection on Anytime has improved a bit, and I have enjoyed watching a few programmes on it recently which I otherwise wouldn't have spotted on the EPG. John Shuttleworth's wonderful 'It's Nice Up North' from Sky Arts was a particular recent favourite which I'd have mi...
