Re: Public Transport in your particular part of the region

I feel like it's not worth booking trains any more as you can't be sure that they're not going to strike and the trains are even going to run. with some train operators, it's bad enough even without the industrial action - you can't put all the blame on the RMT. Also bear in mind they're not doing ...

Re: Yet another Morrisons thread

I have noticed in my local Morrisons they have got rid of a lot of the manned checkouts and replaced them with the ones in the photo. The self checkout hardware in Waitrose must be coming up to 10 years old as we still have the delightfully brown coloured hardware, although it has seen some recent a...

Re: Energy bills: How spanked will YOU get?

It'sa bee in my bonnet that they have kept banging on about some mythical "average" figure with little attribution to how the figure is calculated. No wonder even Liz Truss gets her knickers twisted and spouts more rubbish than usual claiming that it is a hard cap and you can't pay more th...

Re: Queen Elizabeth II

I ventured out to the supermarket (as normal for Sunday as that is when I do the shopping). Couldn't believe how busy it was, and one of the staff said it was like Christmas eve. Usually it is pretty dead at 3pm on Sundays but christ it looked like the entire town had turned out, the carpark was ram...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread

I received my new Natwest Debit Mastercard the other day, a horrific looking thing it is too. If anyone's curious it looks like the card in the screen shot earlier in this thread. Luckily this account barely gets used as it was my old student account and the card lives in a draw for most of its time...

Re: Adverts that irritate and entertain

Ohhh boy. I hate this advert. Everything about it. The try-hard, OTT 'down wiv da kidz' aesthetic reeks of a boardroom of smug, Gen Y hipsters who are trying to make banking hip for Zoomers. I thought this sort of stuff died in the 1980s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGmuRSgaK7w&ab_channel=N...

Re: Public Transport in your particular part of the region

TfL taps - even on buses - show up in the app more or less instantaneously. I've even had a few lately where I've checked mid-journey and it's showing a "missing touch out" at what it assumes is my destination. (It's usually right too.) But yes, thinking about it, Monzo Plus accounts let ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

One thing I don't get is the fact that you can't remove items for yourself on a self scan checkout without staff approval, yet when you use the handhend scanners you can? What is the reason for such disparity? It depends on how it's set up. In the Morrisons up my end, you can remove any loaded bags...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

I'm of the opinion that the whole scale thing is more of a faff for all concerned than it is a deterrent against nicking stuff, especially in places where they have scan-as-you-shop and similar. One thing I don't get is the fact that you can't remove items for yourself on a self scan checkout witho...

Re: Public Transport in your particular part of the region

I find the payment system for tickets outside of London so confusing. The Oyster system is so simple to use, I'm surprised TfL haven't tried licensing it to the other parts of England as it would earn them some much needed dosh. It gets complicated where there are multiple operators involved. We we...

Re: Public Transport in your particular part of the region

SWR are a bunch of jokers, they exist to squeeze cash out of commuters along the lines out of Waterloo. GB Rail sale? Nah, fat chance, my station doesn't even appear in the listings... I went on the Elizabeth line for the first time yesterday, going from my office in Ealing to central London. Very s...
