^ Balham also has two sets: a large self service area for the side facing the high street and manned checkouts and a handful more self serve on the car park end.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Even reading that article I still don’t get how there can be anything more than a few years left in the business. Surely vinyl can’t keep a large chain going? Once that fad’s gone what have they got left? Game has at least managed to make some of their stores more of a destination with their new Bel...

Are Eat doing badly? Two branches in the Tottenham Court Road area and one in Covent Garden that I know of have closed down relatively recently, surely two of the busiest areas for the lunchtime trade in the UK. The quality of their baguettes have gone through the floor over the last few years.

Tesco are rolling out this 'Bulk Buys' section in 12 stores. Basically clearing out a section of the store for these cash & carry style offers with mega-sized boxes of Daz, boxes of Fairy Liquid, bags of 600 tea bags, mega multi-packs of crisps with 50 bags etc.... https://up.metropol247.co.uk/...

Re: The Very Official McDonalds (and other fast food outlets) Thread

The Strand McDonalds in London which was infamous for not having the touch screens now has them. They stripped out a load of tables to install those. There must be few and far between where it's all counter POS only now? Croydon North End still has it as the site is being demolished as part of the ...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

I went back to what used to be my regular Sainsburys in Balham last week for the first time in ages and found they'd added a full service Ben and Jerry's counter right next to the entrance (no one was using it) and had replaced their pizza counter with a Zizzi's pizza takeaway counter, complete with...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

There’s going to be a few smashed phone screens as customers try to juggle basket, product and phone.

Will be interesting to see how they police this. Will security or someone in store be notified when they’ve scanned the code at the end? You could just pretend to end the shop and march out.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

BBC suggests he could rebrand some as Sports Direct. Which might not be a bad idea if there isn't one already in a location and that HOF isn't doing well. I suppose he could hybridise some too. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-45140874 They'd be bloody massive Sports Directs, even the smaller si...

Re: Adverts that irritate and entertain

Does anyone like the Nationwide poetry adverts? They're not as bad as the Flo and Joan ones but they still make me want to turn over. As I’ve said in this thread before I just cannot comprehend how they could possibly compel anyone to choose Nationwide over another bank/building society. Not only i...
