Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

Here's some great archive footage from 1986 - I *think* it's of the Cameron Toll SavaCentre in Edinburgh.

Re: Steve Wright leaves the Afternoon

It's the final weekend for the Scottish 'City 2' stations. The schedules on their websites list 'Greatest Hits Radio is coming' from 7pm on Sunday then continue with the current schedule from 6am on Monday - I guess at this point the stations cease to be, and you have to refer to the GHR website for...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

That's exactly what happens though - TfL warn that you have to use the same payment method to start and end your journey . The subtle difference is that if I sign in to my TfL contactless account, and enter the physical card number, it will also show another 'card' for the virtual card number associ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

Amazon have opened two new Fresh stores at Monument and East Croydon which don't require an account to enter, and let you pay by scanning a QR code on the way out, or a payment card, or even a manned checkout. Some details here . Now that's more like it. Having the choice of being able to use card ...

Re: The unofficial motorway services thread

Shows how long since I've been on a road trip that I don't think I've ever seen an Extra before. Just been reading about them , and slightly baffled by the economics of them renting out space to their competitors. Apparently Moto rent space in quite a few of them too. This thread obviously requires ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Are Kwik-Fit slimming down? I've noticed a 'to let' sign outside our local branch. (Interestingly as a garage, as I'm sure a developer wouldn't have too much trouble getting planning permission to turn it into flats)

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

The branch of Leon in Spitalfields Market has a repossession notice in the window and is permanently closed. Is that normal for a medium sized fast food chain owned by a large retailer?! I guess that branch's footfall probably hasn't recovered since Covid (and the market have gone a lot more food-l...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

You kind of get the vibe that Tesco's operation was on a longer leash, branding wise. Interesting that they did a crude approximation of the 'slashed pound' thing Tesco used for years with a Euro logo. Remember they have plenty of stores in other parts of the Eurozone - I think I'm right in saying ...
