Re: Weird stamp on letter

If a letter doesn't have a stamp, the postman will knock on the recipient's door and charge them £1. In this case the 2nd class postage has obviously been charged to the direct mailing company (assuming they put their details on the back of the envelope) and the Royal Mail's revenue protection depa...

Maybe someone should call it. Sadly the number has no where near as much joy to it as 0181.

Re: A load of bankers

Excellent points made by cwathen there! On the surface of it, HSBC is making our lives easier. You can walk it, use a machine to pay in your money and be gone in a MUCH quicker time than you could by standing and waiting for a cashier. But that's the problem. What if we want to do something other t...

Re: Rail - it's cheaper than the car. Apparently

I've heard two different arguments supporting the above inflation rise. Firstly in previous years the rises have been pegged at below inflation and secondly because the fairs are linked to inflation the argument is that if we reach deflation, or as inflation is likely to remain low then next years f...

Re: The Windows 7 Thread

I used vista pre-SP1, is UAC less about dimming the entire screen, making a beep and not allowing you to do anything else until the password is entered now? From what you have described UAC still appears in the same way however SP1 does seem to considerably reduce the times it appears - well at lea...

Wasn't the news distribution section of the business de-merged a few years back?

Re: Who's for the chop?

I actually would have included Adams in my list if it hadn't been for the fact I thought it had already gone bust. My local branch closed about 6 months ago having been there for at least 20 years. It seems a number of branches have been closed in the past year. The branch in my town, and the neare...

Re: XP - The OP of choice?

I've used Vista at home for over a year now, I have just started using it at work and have to look at how we bring it under similar control as we have with XP. Complete different ball game from using it at home.

Re: Who's for the chop?

Topshop, being part of arcadia, should be safe. Their stores are always still busy with those who have realised that primark stuff is utter shite that falls apart in seconds. Personally, I suspect Clinton Cards and/or birthdays might go. they're both useless shops. I understand that Clinton Cards a...

Re: Manchester Congestion Charge: The vote!

Did anyone catch "Beeching's Tracks" with Stuart Maconie last night on BBC Four? It was mainly about Manchester and included a section where a girl ran four miles from one suburb to another, quicker than you could drive the same distance. I didn't realise they were repeating them all. The...
