Re: Europe - in or out?
Having been brought up in one of the most economically deprived areas of the EU, I've seen first hand the benefits that EU membership brings - access to the EU Social Fund, Objective 1 and the ERDF being some of the most important grants that Wales benefits from - with a further £2bn being pumped in ...

Long term profitability is better than a short term sell off.barcode wrote:I was kind of imply, Tesco could sell them off to plug the holes.WillPS wrote:Yes, profit does certainly help when it comes to paying off debt.

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread
There going to have to shut more stores, I can see that happening. I also think Tesco need to get rid of its banking services and insurance, like it did with its phone and Online video services.
I'd imagine that the banking and insurance services are amongst the more profitable divisions of Tesco ...

Asda is starting to refresh its brand to apparently 'boost connectivity with Walmart.'
The refreshed logo has the Walmart Sun icon behind it, and they're going to use the same slogan as Walmart - "Save Money. Live Better."

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Featurette in the Times shows how the number of British directors has fallen compared with the rise in French directors of Kingfisher. B&Q possibly to do a Jif/Cif and be rebranded Castorama.
I can't see a rebrand working. Jif/Cif are similar names, which is why it worked in the end - and Cif is ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Not a collapse, but my local BHS in Reading has closed down in the last couple of weeks.
Unsurprisingly, due to the size of the shop, it's left a pretty big hole in the high street. I'm not quite sure what retailer will take the unit either - there's already a large Debenhams, John Lewis, House of ...

I went in to my local main Tesco store today here in Reading to find that the Bakery has seemingly been revamped and outsourced - replaced by "The Bakery Project."

Re: Radio visualisation
When Chris Moyles did the longest show ever which was broadcast on the red button and online, he had a full OB truck parked outside the Radio 1 building for the week.
There's a video of Greg James and Chris Moyles doing a tour of the truck here.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Here's one for you.
Dare I say it....
Tesco? (at least, as we know it now.) Are all those Expresses, Metros sustainable?
I don't think there's any danger of a Tesco collapse any time soon. Disastrous results - yes, but they're still making huge profits and are still twice the size of "number 2 ...

Re: Yet another Morrisons thread
I picked up a temporary card yesterday, and keep getting "200 More Points when you spend £1" vouchers spat out at me at the till.
Baffling thing is how you need to get a member of staff to scan the voucher for you at the self service till.

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread
Agreed. If my maths is right, points are now worth 0.5p? Worse value than Tesco Clubcard. They seem to be focussing on fuel. Coupled with the scrapping of the eco-points for reusing carrier bags, it doesn't give out a particularly good green message does it?WillPS wrote:Another poor decision from JS I think.
