Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Darlington is apparently in a similar situation, and the store's closure has lead to the car park temporarily closing until the lifts can be locked out of use: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tees-66897703 Both ex. Presto stores. Darlington is different to North Shields though, the lifts are ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Much stronger brand than their own and the website is much better aswell. £5m for a whole website, regardless to brand isn't that much in the grand scheme of things especially when it has recognition. I know Wilko has been selling on Amazon for quite awhile now. Wonder if long term they might trial...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
The Range is overpriced and full of absolute tut. Wilko wasn't immune to 'live laugh love'-level shite but until the end of their life were always decent on price. Must say I always thought I was the only the person who thought that about The Range. I've never really seen any point to go to the pla...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
The brand and website is set to be acquired by The Range. 'Why?' is the question I'm stuck with. Much stronger brand than their own and the website is much better aswell. £5m for a whole website, regardless to brand isn't that much in the grand scheme of things especially when it has recognition. I...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
the ones on the closure list tomorrow are the lucky ones now imo Honestly, the lucky ones are probably those working in the 50 odd stores B&M have bought. 'Not being clear' if the Wilko staff are part of the deal and will join B&M under TUPE as is being widely reported is actually very clea...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
The two warehouses in Worksop and Newport (Wales) will close on Friday 15th September. So assuming that the remaining stores are getting a trickle of remaining stock coming in, the final deliveries should be then. I'd imagine they'll still be getting stock in as they'll end up sending stock from st...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
There's quite a few stores on the list which opened around 2016 - 19 so maybe it's more to do with bad leases on newer stores. Believe Hammersmith, Acton and the few out of town stores mentioned are all that era. Other than that it's rump stores in mostly bad places. There's a few I'm genuinely baff...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
North Shields is an odd store. It's the former Safeway in The Beacon Centre (covered town centre disguised as a mall). The cafe had stayed the same since Safeway closed in about 1994 (when they put their focus on the larger Whitley Bay branch) and there are several small sublet units (cobbler etc) ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Some suppliers are saying they just won't work with Wilko at all until current debts are cleared: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/sep/04/wilko-rescue-deal-to-save-many-stores-at-risk-over-supplier-debts I went to the Carlton branch today. I was surprised it wasn't more bare tbh, about 40%...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
I was in a Wilko earlier and the shelves looked fairly full, with the only empty spaces I saw being the pick and mix and the occasional shelf gap. Stuff like toiletries weren't discounted - it was all a bit odd really, perhaps these are just sale or return, or PWC realise they can extract most cash...
