Re: Another High Street Rebrand

I found this in the cupboard the other day and meant to post a pic on here when I bought it 5 years ago but I forgot. It was definitely bought from THE Homebase – it's not somebody else using that name. Another one of those mysteries. A rebrand that was aborted very early? Or a graphic designer who ...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

Carpetright have today updated their website and Facebook page with this logo. Note that it's changed again since the one posted here back in February (and which had been fitted to some storefronts); they've now incorporated the tick from the old logo. Perhaps it's a temporary "halfway house&qu...

Re: The BIG MetroPoll - IN or OUT ?

I'm intrigued at the idea that the sale of Duty Free ciggies and booze would have to be reinstated on all flights and ferries in and out of the UK if we left the EU. There used to be a cottage industry on the Irish Sea and English Channel ferry routes amongst professional full-time cigarette purchas...

Re: The BIG MetroPoll - IN or OUT ?

A massive OUT from me, mainly because the EU is an affront to our democracy and parliamentary sovereignty. I don't want unelected overseas people deciding they can impose or increase taxes on British citizens, with Westminster being totally powerless to stop it. Simple as that really. As for the deb...

Re: Why are Media Studies degrees disregarded?

If it's any consolation I've got a first in law and it's also worth Jack Shit. I mistakenly thought that if I worked my bollocks off to get a good grade, it would open doors, but unless you've got rich, generous, well-connected parents you can forget it. I've since gone back to my old career of free...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

In terms of Total garages - there seems to be one chain of them who have been particularly slow at changing them - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.0218379,-1.13083,3a,75y,143.84h,75.65t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sEKnlYdpUxQJwB9JQjKVkJQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 This one in Nottingham (which will transform in t...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

More about the incorporation of Shop'N Drive's rebrand to compliment Esso. http://www.pyott.co.uk/shopn-drive/ Thanks, that confirms what I vaguely remembered reading elsewhere: the Esso/Shop'N Drives are former Total sites acquired by Rontec. Since converting them to Shop'N Drive, Rontec has sold ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Everything going okay with B&M? The store in Stretford Mall (in a former Woolies unit) is closing down. It could be that they're moving to a bigger unit nearby. I think Terry Leahy's trying to expand the furniture range into sofas, dining tables, etc, which the Woolies units are too small for. ...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

The trouble with renaming/rebranding a DIY chain is that many of the own brand products, particularly the more obscure tools and fixings, have a very slow turnover. They hang around on shelves and in warehouses for years. I remember it took a long time for Focus to flush out all their Do It All, and...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread

One thing looking at those photos of the Hoover building store- I didn't realise they were still using the red on white typewriter font signage on new builds as late as 1992 (which is when that store opened)! I know they were using the white on blue sans-serif font style by 1994 from an old TV show...
