Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Amazon Fresh have closed three stores in Ealing, Wandsworth and East Sheen. https://www.retailsector.co.uk/644060-amazon-closes-its-first-checkoutless-store-after-two-years/ Been into a few of the Amazon Fresh stores whilst visiting London (on different occasions). The biggest problem my wife encou...

It's probably also that old adage of location, location, location. Quite a lot of Everyman and The Light locations are in affluent areas (and therefore likely to spend more on the extras), and the offering is different to what the multiplexes have. You can get alcoholic drinks and hot pizza served a...

Re: Public Transport in your particular part of the region
I think ticket offices or some sort of hub should exist at the big stations like Waterloo, Manchester Piccadilly etc but I do it's a little unnecessary at some stations either numbers are so low, it's not worth the cost or in certain London stations. Indeed, I don't think anyone using the metro ser...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
Cost maybe, the fact that there's competition and perhap better reliability on the hardware/software. NCR have always been the "king" of self checkouts, for years I can only remember everywhere having NCR machines for several hardware refresh cycles. The alternatives (like the early Wincor...

Re: Shops with excessive tannoy announcements
The problem with B&M, certainly in our local one, is that it attracts a lot of dawdlers who want to buy the entire shop and staff who scan at a glacial speed.
If you're going in for one or two items then it can take quite a bit of time to get out.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
I don't think I have ever seen many shoppers inside an Amazon Fresh store and I pass 2 of them regularly when going to work. On the occasions I have been inside the goods have been quite expensive - I do not know if they are trying imitate the Tesco Express convenience style pricing but it's not rea...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
The supply issues are well publicised, as is the financial situation it finds itself in. There's also the competitors - Home Bargains, B&M, supermarkets all vying for the same slice of the pie. Consumers are notoriously fickle and if they can get what they want easily ahd cheaper elsewhere, they...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread
I assume the banks know what branches are being used and what aren't - that's not to say that's their main driver for choosing which to close, though. My current banking anecdote is courtesy of my wife, who's just become treasurer of a society; and initially couldn't get herself added to the bank a...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread
I'm familiar with the TCR one, it looks tiny from the outside but is quite cavernous once you get in and up the escalator. That's good though, is it not, that they have a steady flow of people and sufficient capacity? No one likes to queue and the fact there are queues are symtomatic of the fact the...
