Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

That's a problem I have in my local Sainsbury's- I got a £10 gift card for my birthday and the sort of stuff I would have spent it on was in those sections and was taken away when they moved the Argos into there. All that sort of stuff is still for sale in the Argos, but I can't use the gift card t...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread

Not quite sure about the new Finest look. They have stepped back to the old look but I don't like the new font of the product description. I was surprised to see this rebrand crop up in the business press again this week - apparently, it has contributed to a reduction in the amount of (non-recyclab...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

Retail Week is reporting a planned major rebrand by John Lewis and Waitrose to "John Lewis & Partners" and "Waitrose & Partners" respectively. Gut reaction: feels like a bit of a stunt that'll be forgotten in a couple of years. Though, in fairness, that's not usually JLP...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Robert Shrimsley's op-ed in today's FT Weekend ("The slow death of WHSmith") is relevant to our recent discussions. It concludes: Once a high street without a WH Smith seemed unimaginable. Now it seems almost inevitable. Perhaps its future lies solely in the trains-and-planes markets, and ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Re the first line of that BBC article: "WHSmith has admitted it made more than £700 by selling single tubes of toothpaste for £7.99 in a hospital." WHS has admitted that it sold 89 tubes @ £7.99. That's quite different to "making" more than £700, unless the cost price is circa 12...

It's the old Benton Hypermarket (and still gets called that) - I think it might have been co-op at one point.

Aberdeen has one.
As does Benton (Newcastle) and Fulwood (Preston).

That's the new interface but with the old "PayQwiq" name instead of "TescoPay+" - I thought the rebrand pre-dated the new software, but clearly not.

Re: The Very Official McDonalds (and other fast food outlets) Thread

Fuller's switched all of their 400ish pubs over to Pepsi Max on draught and regular Pepsi only available in bottles 18 months or so ago - and no-one really seemed to notice, let alone bother (even though they press-released it and you'd think it would be a great tabloid 'nannying' story). But I agre...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread

Tesco are going to launch a 'discounter' Aldi/Lidl-like format: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2018/feb/11/tesco-planning-discount-chain-to-take-on-aldi-and-lidl There's talk that they're going to dig up an old brand for the chain; my money's on Wm Low... Delamare maybe? I actually found an o...
