Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
The branch of Leon in Spitalfields Market has a repossession notice in the window and is permanently closed. Is that normal for a medium sized fast food chain owned by a large retailer?!

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
if anybody's interested in a history of Savacentre, here's a detailed history of Savacentre from the Sainsbury's Archive: https://www.sainsburyarchive.org.uk/story/stories/the-story-of-savacentre I'm extremely interested, thank you. Interesting to see that they based it on French hypermarkets. I fe...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread
Last Friday, I visited the Barclays in Tottenham Court Road (London), it's on the main road in a prime location in the West End, yet when I walked in, I was able to go straight to the self-service banking ATM without a queue at all. There was a steady amount of people using them, but no queue. So i...

Re: Adverts that irritate and entertain
I get the link to "The Christmas Party" as a term but a political party themed Christmas campaign for Tesco seems really odd and joyless and the last thing I want to associate with Christmas. I wonder if they thought it up during the height of the political turmoil over the summer and thou...

Re: Public Transport in your particular part of the region
Looks like it might be a Trainline competitor that's taking advantage of what's left of their Virgin Trains brand recognition. As an aside, god I miss Virgin Trains West Coast. Avanti has been simply appalling since Covid, though I suppose many of their staffing problems may well have hit Virgin too...

Re: E-bike rental
Santander e-bikes are £3.30 per half hour. They should in theory be a bit cheaper to run than Lime as they have to be docked so batteries should be easier to change whereas Lime bikes are dumped all over the place which no doubt adds a lot of time to that process. It's a shame about the parking issu...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
There was some expansion work going which started pre-Covid to turn some of the car park into more retail space. I wonder if it'll be some sort of ghost mail for a few years, given how many empty units there are, especially down the John Lewis end. I'm pretty sure they've canned that extension now....

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
An awful lot of shops have closed over the last month in (a still endlessly busy) Westfield Stratford. Lakeland, Currys, Victoria's Secret, Indulge Beauty, some luggage shop, Swatch, HSBC, an independent clothes shop, a probably dodgy American Candy shop and a few others I will have forgotten have a...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
The Sunday Trading Act would be one of my first things to dispose of when I take over. I'm still amazed there wasn't ever even a suggestion (that I can remember) of suspending it at least temporarily during the worst of Covid. Given the amount of queues outside of supermarkets, and the need for the...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread
I should maybe add that this one is a Local, albeit apparently one that's over 3000 sq ft, because it's only open for 6 hours on a Sunday. This is the new one in East Village, yes? It's very annoying that they've decided to make it just large enough to close at 5pm on Sundays. It does have a very M...
