Re: Energy bills: How spanked will YOU get?

I was horrified to learn that those insert coin meters are still in some houses. How will those be dealt with? Those must surely be horrible landlords ensuring a tenant is paying upfront for electricity, rather than an energy company still utilising these? I can't imagine any supplier is going arou...

Re: Energy bills: How spanked will YOU get?

For monthly direct debit customers, I assumed the Energy Bills Support Scheme would reduce monthly direct debits between October and March by £66.67 in order to deliver the £400 we've all been promised. Got an email from my supplier EDF today that says they will be maintaining normal direct debits a...

Re: Queen Elizabeth II

I agree. I think it’s important to remember that these people are a very noisy but tiny minority, and they should be treated like the irrelevance that they are. Indeed, it's always worth remembering that on Twitter it takes as few as 1000 tweets or retweets to make it high up on the trending list. ...

Re: Energy bills: How spanked will YOU get?

I'm with EDF on a fixed deal until end of June next year. It wasn't the cheapest around when I signed up, but is starting to look like pretty good value. So, I'm smug. Can confirm my first spanking took place on 1st July when my direct debit doubled - now on the Standard Variable Rate and subject t...

Is everyone getting a cardboard spoon with their McFlurry now, or just Scotland because of the upcoming ban on plastic cutlery from takeaways?

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Given the failure of M Local, it's understandable that Morrisons would want to try and salvage some Morrisons Daily stores if they want to keep a presence in the small/convenience store market. Still - I suppose the price will have to be right.

Re: Fuel situation in your area

A lot being made of the 5p reduction in fuel duty on the six o'clock news tonight, which was due to take effect at 6pm.

Are petrol stations obliged to change their prices at all, or at exactly 6pm? Or is it all an exercise in perception and spin?

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread

And I don't think the HSBC brand has ever really made much traction in Scotland. Have they even had more than one branch in Glasgow or Edinburgh? They opened a huge flagship branch on Princes Street in Edinburgh in 2006 in a former Burger King, but it was more about selling mortgages and other prod...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread

If you used the Inverness branch, it's 105 miles to the next nearest in Aberdeen. I guess they just don't really want the customers up there, or assume online & post office will be enough for them.
