Re: 2015 UK Election
I have a strong dislike of the Tories, but I don't pretend that everything they did has been bad (just most of it). They did a lot of the things the Labour party would have done (levels of borrowing etc) but because of their ideological bent, they prioritised the wrong things when overseeing the rec...

Re: Yet another phone thread
The Moto G in the UK is not very different from a Google Play edition one. Motorola has put minimal customisation and tweaks into it thankfully. I have a SIM-free Moto G for messing about with, as well as my daily driver Lumia 1020 with the Windows Phone 8.1 preview on it.

Re: April 8 2014: The end of Windows XP
I think the implication is that they're making the touch side easier to ignore when there is a mouse connected. Certainly the new minimise and close buttons for metro apps are nice. Having avoided it like the plague since my first horrendous 72 hours using windows 8 (resulting in an angry reformat ...

Re: April 8 2014: The end of Windows XP
The Update 1 changes do not impact on the Touch UI and interactions, so I hope future changes won't either, unless they are adding new features for touch.

Re: April 8 2014: The end of Windows XP
If Microsoft were going to backtrack over the menus/toolbars thing, they'd have done so a long time ago. Windows 8[.1] is the current edition of Windows, and was the first to feature this touch first malarky. They've made it clear that within the lifetime of Windows 8[.1] they will go back and add ...

Re: April 8 2014: The end of Windows XP
Why fix something that isn't broken? This is exactly what is happening - they're no longer fixing the broken bits and you're on your own. Exactly, How long should Microsoft be expected to devote resources on maintaining a 13 year old OS. Apple generally only support an OS for maybe 2 or 3 years at ...

Re: April 8 2014: The end of Windows XP
Part of the reason why XP hasn't been dropped completely, can be a matter of cost. Old PCs which people are unwilling to replace. For businesses and organisations, they have custom made software which runs on XP, and won't be/can't be updated to work on newer OSs. Office is a relatively expensive pi...
