Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

John Lewis used CityLink as it's main courier. I always found CityLink to be one of the better couriers in comparison to Yodel and DPD. DPD is by far the best courier in my experience. The only time they have let me down is when they arrived 10 minutes after the one hour delivery window they provid...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread

Call me old fashioned but I don't understand why you'd need wifi when you are doing your shopping anyway? Unless you were planning a #livefromtesco tweetathon, in which case carry on. Oh you would be surprised! Where I work we have free WIFI and someone who had booked in a Wake wanted to know if we...

Re: The *OFFICIAL* Asda thread

While buying an age-restricted product in Asda today (paracetamol, since you ask), I noticed that the self-service checkout allowed me to continue scanning the rest of my shopping while I waited for an assistant to come and verify that I'm over 16. Much more sensible than waiting at that point. Bee...

Re: Yet another Morrisons thread

Baffling thing is how you need to get a member of staff to scan the voucher for you at the self service till. You do also get a 1p discount on your shop for the inconvenience (it seems that they couldn't implement a £0.00 coupon for whatever reason). Sainsbury's has the same issue with some coupons.

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread

The new Scottish law is a lot more draconian than many of the previous ones. Things like McDonalds paper bags are included From what I've read, the legislation is largely similar to Wales' so I don't see how it is any more draconian. As WillPS says, it's the same in Wales with McDonald's bags, thou...

Re: The Super-Official Random Tech Questions Thread

Well that's fabulous, and you're wonderful. Thanks for such a comprehensive answer! Only rhetorical question that remains really is will a 2.5GHz i5 processor 2012 MacBook actually benefit from 16 rather than 8GB RAM! For what I use the poor machine for, I should hope it would!! If I were you I wou...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread

No, but it depends who it's aimed at. A gondola of bakery cookies or hot cross buns is often placed at the entrance of my local Sainsbury's, or at random intervals around the store. An easy 50p extra from the bakery manager. Getting each customer to guy just one more impulse item can be achieved by...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread

Re the Sainsbury's poster; what are their staff expected to do to encourage customers to spend an extra 50p? Most customers in a supermarket will have little or no contact with staff until they get to the checkout and Sainsbury's don't follow WH Smith's practice of trying to sell sweets at the check...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread

ASDA put in a completely unmanned 24/7 pay at pump only filling station at their Edinburgh Chesser store about a year ago. First time I've encountered a completely unmanned filling station in the UK. I'd kindof assumed it wouldn't be allowed on safety grounds, but it's there and has a couple of jet...
