Re: Another High Street Rebrand
With Homebase not having the presence it had 5 years ago. It doesn't make sense to kill off all that brand awareness, Bunnings will never reach the brand awareness Homebase had it's going to be a very costly mistake to rebrand.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Another thing that is happening is Currys PC World and Carphone staff are being merged so managers of Carphone consessions just become team leaders and there isn't a separate team.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
You say that though, but even when they're merging stores they seem to be going into the smaller of two units or moving to a smaller one. So don't expect many megastores.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
I hope they choose on a name after they finish merging all the stores. I'm not a fan of the 'Currys PC World' name. Dixons Warehouse, perhaps? Given they're joining together everything, and it's all electrical, how about Fuse / Fusion ? The trouble is Alexia you'd end up with loads of people expect...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Merging the remaining separate but neighbouring Currys and PC World's into one unit makes sense as they've both been effectively the same store for years. I think Dixons largely know what they're doing and these moves are what you'd expect as result of any merger between retailers.

Re: Very local chains
Do you non-East Anglians know of Hughes? Currys equivalent, pretty much. I always assumed it was a national chain (growing up in Ipswich) but apparently, it's pretty much based in East Anglia. I've just had a look at their website, and it seems that they've acquired a few other stores around the pl...

Re: Very local chains
Since having year living in the North East, I've noticed a couple of Heron's in the Midlands. But it's as far South as that brand travels as of yet.

Re: Very local chains
http://www.gardinerhaskins.co.uk is another one. This department store is split across two buildings in Bristol and had everything from a rather modern looking Samsung TV department to a bit that is basically Wilko. The branding is all very dated. http://s3-media2.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/_cnUoCNEEFVqa...

Re: Very local chains
Booths , a supermarket chain which can mainly be found when visiting Lancashire and the Lake District. Wiki . http://up.metropol247.co.uk/Philip/BoothsSupermarket.jpg At least you can see a big brand mentality there, it doesn't feel as if it's just a local operation. I'd say I'm more looking for th...

Re: Very local chains
Yes, Alexia I did mean national. I have in the past frequented the Falmouth Trago. In Worcester and Bromsgrove Thompsons exists that gives the public a chance to pick up big brand electrical goods at discounted prices due to deformities and such, I suspect these types of outfits exist everywhere. ht...

Very local chains
You know the things, the brands that are very well known locally but wouldn't be known to a national audience. A bit like Bob Warman. Locally we have Tony's Handyman which was a mainstay of Redditch Town Centre for many years, at one time had three branches, and now solely exists in the affluent vil...
