Re: Another High Street Rebrand
If you're on a budget, it's not too good - Merry Hill went very upmarket in the last 10 years or so to compete with the New Bullring, getting rid of a lot of the cheaper shops that used to be there -The last budget place to go was a Spencer's Indoor Market. Wolverhampton to Merry Hill by bus is a ni...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
The Merry Hill Asda was built as a Carrefour, so it could be that they had that layout since it opened, and Asda just carried it over when they aquired it. It was a Gateway before it was an Asda. Footage of it being a Carrefour can be seen in the Spitting Image 1987 election special, of all places....

I liked him* and the show even though there was lots wrong in it - the store openings left me cold, but I think Microsoft have started doing it too.

I got through a few cheapo Alba sub-walkmans in the mid 90s and none of them had a rewind mode, god knows I wish they did! Last one I had came with FM and a Bass Boost, which miraculously really worked.

Snap! Anything ITN logo related caused an early retreat to bed, as did blank screens after closedowns or whatever.rob wrote:
The close of News at Ten used to scare me as well, especially when the ITN logo zoomed in. That scared the bejesus out of me.

Re: Tell me about netbooks
I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 10v - it pretty much does everything I throw at it, the keyboard is 92% normal size and feels alright to use. The 160GB HD would take a while to fill up. XP runs brilliantly on it even with 1GB (but RAM upgrades require taking the whole thing to bits) - I wouldn't have th...

Re: Election propaganda
I've only had a single Labour communication so far, while Paul Kenny generally quite agreeable, there is no real mention of new jobs - which is all I am bothered about at the moment. The LD candidate I emailed never got back to me, the Con candidate has told me he will post his to me to make sure it...

Re: Old Supermarkets(/buildings)
Two old fashioned Tesco anecdotes follow.. Probably long gone now, the oddly shaped Tesco in Walsall had this ace nearly flat escalator for getting trolleys up to the next level which amused me loads back in the day. In a similar vein, I remember the Tesco in West Bromwich during a computers for sch...

Right near here is a Mavis Enderby, a place I am not surprised to learn is in the Meaning of Liff!
MAVIS ENDERBY (n.)
The almost-completely-forgotten girlfriend from your distant past for
whom your wife has a completely irrational jealousy and hatred.
