Re: Coronavirus - Strange times

I'm still occasionally finding places which aren't accepting reusable coffee cups. I'm pretty sure baristas aren't going to catch the covid by touching my keepcup. It seems one of the hangovers of the past 2 years is that 'because covid' has been used as an excuse to deliver poor service, and still...

Re: Coronavirus - Strange times

I suspect it's automated but the system doesn't check who has already had their boosters. Which justs adds to the general perception that those in power don't have the faintest clue what they're doing. Suppose they gotta keep the intern in the basement busy with the Nokia 3210. In all seriousness t...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

Are they the Android-based ones? They're the ones I've used most recently in M&S and Asda, though the Asda one seemed to occasionally fail to beep on scanning. Altering the quantity wasn't too difficult though. The ones at asda are garbage. They're the same hardware as the second gen Tesco ones...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

Do we think this ‘just walk out’ setup is the future? It feels to me a little like CFL lightbulbs. Sold as being the future but probably not what ends up being used. I’d love to see the findings from the trials we’ve already seen. What technology exists that could scan the contents of your trolley ...

Re: Visa (Credit) not everywhere you want to be

Interesting you should mention the US cdd, and costs for cards/cash - I know during my travels in the US some gas stations had different prices for cash and credit. I'm surprised that people are kicking off and screaming they'll go elsewhere, why just not using another card? Do people really just re...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

Is the monitor showing your face some sort of psychological trick to make you think twice about shoplifting?

Cafe Rouge now wants to become simply Rouge. Perhaps the French brasserie pastiche isn't working so well after all..

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

even if it's longer contracts with the networks then that doesn't seem to make any difference either as EE have breached their contract by pulling out of Phones 4U a year early Not true. EE informed phones4u that they would not be renewing their contract - they didn't renege on the existing one. Vo...

Re: Masks

I will mask up if the place is really busy, there are lots of people and is severely enclosed. However, I tend to visit the supermarket when there's less people anyway - late on weekend evenings/weekdays. I don't bother with masks times like these, since there is no benefit. I have no problem with p...

Wow, has the pandemic finished off Stagecoach? National Express in talks to buy them. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-58636437 I like the two photos in that article - one with the new National Express coach, the other with a Stagecoach bus taken circa 15 years ago. That wouldn't have been as no...

Re: Energy bills: How spanked will YOU get?

I'm with Octopus and am fixed until Jan 22. Hopefully things will have calmed down by then. I have never understood the government's obsession with wanting to get everyone off gas, considering that it costs nearly 4x as much per kwh to use. Plus, electric stoves (in my experience) are never as good ...

Re: AM Radio Poll

I still isten to 5 live on 909 AM, for what it's worth I rarely tune in (only for large football matches like Euros or breaking news) I'm happy to live with the telephone quality audio. Does the job, and content is king when it comes to speech radio. it's just not worth the hassle of ripping out and...
